We have a trained health aide as well as all of our office staff trained by our nurses each school year. A school nurse is shared with several other schools. If an emergency arises at a time when the nurse is not in the school, other trained personnel will be on the site. The nurse is always on call for the school and can be reached.
School personnel are NOT permitted to dispense any medicine (including pain relievers) without a doctor’s note. Parents/guardians must register medications with the office to be dispensed to students.
Students must have a medication form filled out in order for a child to receive medication at school (includes both prescription and over-the-counter drugs). Any medication must be brought to the office by the parent or guardian in the original container. Students may not transport medicine to or from school. A parent or guardian will have to bring the medicine to school and sign it in properly and then pick it up from school when it is no longer needed.
Health Plans are required for some students who have any regular medications kept here at school. Health Plans must be created and signed by a physician. Our school nurse and health aide will assist families with this paperwork.
We have many students with food allergies. For the safety of these students, we will only allow pre-packaged items, with the ingredients listed, to be brought into the school for the three school parties. After-hour events or any event where parents are accompanying and monitoring their children will be the exception to this rule.
So that every child may participate, we encourage birthday celebrations to be something other than a food item. This year we are encouraging our families to make a donation of a book to the class library. The birthday student will get to sign the book and a special label will be included on the inside cover to show it was donated in their honor.
The safety of our students continues to be our number one priority. Food allergies are on the rise and many of our AES students are affected by a variety of allergies. We know that our AES families are very respectful and will want to help us keep a safe learning environment for all students.
