Application and Feasibility Study & Design

The application process was completed in the summer of 2015 with the Massachusetts School Building Authority. On September 30, 2015 the MSBA Board voted to invite the City of Waltham into the Feasibility Study Phase. The documents below provide an overview of the application process, including enrollment projections, compliance certifications, and profiles of Waltham Public Schools and our need for a new high school.

MSBA approves Leftfield, LLC as the Owners Project Manager

In May 2019 the Designer Selection Panel was pleased to award the project to Leftfield, LLC. To further ensure success for this exciting and complex project, Leftfield has added resources from Jacobs to its already MSBA-centric team with large high school experience. Leftfield's teaming with Jacobs will ensure the availability of experienced project resources, often considered the most significant concern in today's market. As the Owners Project Managers, Leftfield will work in conjunction with the City, serving as an extension of our staff.

MSBA approves Symmes, Maini & McKee Associates as the Designer for the new Waltham High School

The MSBA Designer Selection Panel held a meeting on March 8, 2016 to select the architects for a new or renovated Waltham High School. Representing the City of Waltham on the DSP were Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy, Superintendent Drew Echelson and School Committee and School Building Committee representative John Frassica. Dr. Echelson remarked that SMMA has extensive experience and designed twelve high schools in the last ten years, several with Chapter 74 programming. SMMA provided a similar presentation to the School Building Committee on March 14, 2016. SMMA conducted site visits and analysis of the Fernald and 554 Lexington Street properties as well as the current high school site. SMMA has several strong educational consultants working on their project team.

MSBA approves Consigli Construction Company as the Construction Manager for the new Waltham High School

On May 22, 2020 the CM Selection Subcommittee voted unanimously to recommend Consigli Construction Company of Milford, MA as the construction manager for the new Waltham High School. The subcommittee noted that Consigli was the top-ranked firm considering the quality of their Project and CM Management Approach, Project Team, direct relevant experience and level of commitment. In addition the company looks forward to presenting real-world learning opportunities for WHS students. Consigli Construction Company is an employee-owned, fourth generation company, that has built over sixty schools and was voted New England Contractor of the Year in 2019.
