Looking for something specific?
Since the purpose of professional learning is equity and excellence for each and every student, it will be important to have a system for tracking the impact of this PD System on student outcomes in the aggregate as well as by sub-groups. To do so, we will build upon groundwork that has been laid for the district’s Accelerated Improvement Plan.
The WPS Accelerated Improvement Plan currently has metrics and numeric benchmarks defined (but no routine for monitoring) the following:
Grade 1 readiness indicators
Grade 3 ELA & Math indicators
Grade 5 ELA, Math & Science indicators
Grade 8 ELA, Math & Science & engagement indicators
High School College & Career Readiness indicators
In addition to these measures, there are many additional data sources that we can collect to utilize as indicators of equity and excellence. They will be compiled and updated twice each year, to support the PD committee and other district decision-makers to monitor 1) changes over time and 2) differences by race and EL status (not just “high-needs”). A full list of data sources that should be compiled (in the aggregate and by sub-group) is provided below.
The Director of Technology will be working through fall 2020 on prototypes to illustrate what is feasible. Volunteers will be released to work with the Director of Technology on a draft to bring to the full PD Committee for review. Questions to consider:
How will specific numeric goals be determined?
How will PD be informed by each specific tracker?
How do we make trackers non-burdensome and keep them objective?
How often will the tracker data be shared with the district community (public)?
How long is acceptable to expect impact?
The goal is for the tracker to be updated at least twice a year (August and February). The PD Committee will review them each spring to identify needs, define PDRT strands, and inform any PD System adjustments needed for the following year. School teams will review them each summer at ALI to inform the development of school-year QSPs and the alignment of district and school goals.
