The Standards for Mathematical Practice describe ways that students engage with math as they grow in mathematical maturity and expertise throughout the elementary, middle, and high school years. Mathematics educators at all levels seek to develop these practice standards in their students by connecting them daily to math content during instruction.  DESE's guides below describe examples of how mathematically proficient students in grades pre-K through 2 and Grades 3 through 5 may demonstrate the eight Standards for Mathematical Practice.
