DESCRIPTION OF MyCAP COURSES
FRESHMEN MYCAP SEMINAR
Semester Course .5 credits
Prerequisite: None Open to Fr.
Students in the 9th grade attend seminar five times per semester. Attendance is mandatory and students are all scheduled to have MyCAP. Topics covered during the seminars include, but are not limited to: exploring different learning styles, notetaking and study skills, writing goals and action plans, organization, beginning resume writing skills, exploring career and extracurricular interests/activities, exploring work-based learning and community service experiences, financial literacy, and early college planning.
SOPHOMORE MYCAP SEMINAR
Semester Course .5 credits
Prerequisite: None Open to So.
Students in the 10th grade attend seminar five times per semester. Attendance is mandatory and students are all scheduled to have MyCAP. Topics covered during the seminars include, but are not limited to: growth mindset, notetaking and study skills, community service and work-based learning experiences, exploring various post-secondary options (career and college), career vocabulary and platforms (Indeed, etc.), resume writing, goal and action plans, workplace skills and values, career interest surveys, and job interview skills.
JUNIOR MYCAP SEMINAR
Semester Course .5 credits
Prerequisite: None Open to Jr.
Students in the 11th grade attend seminar five times per semester. Attendance is mandatory and students are all scheduled to have MyCAP. Topics covered during the seminars include, but are not limited to: perseverance and growth mindset in academic/work-related environments, resume writing skills, cover letter writing skills, college essay writing, applying to part-time jobs/work-based learning experiences, career exploration, workplace skills and values, labor market information/trends, and post-secondary goals and action plans.
SENIOR MYCAP Seminar
Semester Course .5 credits
Prerequisite: None Open to Sr.
Students in the 12th grade attend seminar five times per semester. Attendance is mandatory and students are all scheduled to have MyCAP. Topics covered during the seminars include, but are not limited to: personal responsibility, communication, self-advocacy, managing deadlines, key employability skills, FAFSA and post-secondary financial literacy, interview skills, review of resume writing, cover letter writing, and college essay writing, financial vs. merit-based scholarships knowledge, and marketing oneself.
