My Career and Academic Plan
MyCAP is a DESE (Department of Elementary and Secondary Education) program that pairs with work-based learning programs like Work Study and Innovation Career Pathways. With DESE's help, WHS has implemented it into schoolwide seminars for students to gain real-life application skills for whatever path they choose post-graduation. Students will gain the necessary skills to embark on more internship and job opportunities, while also beginning to think ahead to their possible future paths.
All students are enrolled in MyCAP seminar to ensure that all students have equal access to career and college resources alike. Students are expected to attend all MyCAP seminars, and must reach out to the MyCAP instructor if they miss a seminar because of an absence. All seminar materials and assignments can be accessed on Google Classroom.
Freshmen and Seniors will have MyCAP seminar during their fall semester. Sophomores and Juniors will have it during their spring semester during their B-block study. Students will either be in their Counseling or MyCAP seminar during their B-block study. There are a total of 5 MyCAP seminars for students throughout the semester.
The purpose of MyCAP seminar is to grant all students equal access to growing their academic skills, career and college readiness skills, and exploring their interests, talents, and future goals. This is in response to past WHS student feedback who wished for a program that allowed for students to prepare for their futures within school, while also having the time and space to ask questions and explore different pathways and opportunities. Our hope is that students leave MyCAP seminars with a greater awareness of workplace skills and expectations and college information.
