Ms. Yarbrough Takes On Role of Girls Assistant Soccer Coach

By; Emma Crump

Ms. Yarbrough has been working at LHS as a teacher for four years. She is a well-known and much loved person here at our high school. This year, she has taken on the added role of assistant coach for our girls' soccer team! She may be a new coach at LHS, but she is no stranger to coaching or to soccer. Coach Yarbrough previously was an assistant coach on the cheer team at Ridgeland High School (another Walker County School). Her daughter played soccer for many years during her youth and then played all the way through high school here at LHS. Yarbrough was involved in her daughter's soccer team as a youth coach. Coach says, “I’m really excited to join Coach Caleb Perry as part of the soccer coaching team.” The girls soccer team has many returning players and talented newer players coming in. These factors combined led to Coach Yarbrough seeing a very successful season this year. Make sure to come out and attend a game this year and cheer on our Lady Ramblers!

Coach Chase Horne Takes The Reigns Of The Boys Soccer Team

By: Emma Crump

Coach Chase Horne has been appointed as the new head soccer coach for our Ramblers. Coach Horne grew up playing soccer for LaFayette all of his life. He took the field for LaFayette Middle and High School. Horne has always had a passion for soccer. “ I remember watching my brother play when I was young and I wanted to be just like those guys.”

Horne has a real love for the game of soccer one of his most memorable moments was when he played his last game on Senior Night in Jack King Stadium. With that memory still in his mind and heart, he knew that, eventually, he had to come back and be a part of the team. Horne hasn’t yet become familiar with the teams we have in our region and is working on getting to know all the new younger players. However, he does notice that his team has amazing chemistry and will “run through a brick wall for each other”. Coach Horne also has the honor of working with many Juniors that he coached while they were in middle school. Horne says, “We will be a force to be reckoned with this year”, and he is looking forward to seeing how far the guys can go!

2021 Wrestling Season Summary

By: Tanner Ownby

The LaFayette Ramblers Wrestling team is full of talent and there are very few weak links. This has led to high expectations for a successful 2021 season. The team is loaded with young talent. There are 14 freshmen, and 2 are expected to be at the State Tournament. Those Freshman are Jacob Hamilton at 106 and Levi Ledford at 138. The Sophomores are represented by only one wrestler, Jonah Neal but he brings a lot to the table. He has shown improvement and will continue to grow and get better. For our Juniors, Caleb Zwiger has been a big superstar for the team and shall continue to be next year as a senior. The Senior class is loaded with talent. Carson Lanier is returning from a broken leg from last season, and gets better every wrestling match. We expect to see some great highlights from him this season. Hunter Deal is expected to place top 6 at the state tournament as he keeps getting wins for the Ramblers. David Patterson was going to take off this year, but he didn’t and he has been a huge impact. Karson Ledford and Avery Sullivan both only have one loss and have been huge for the team. Avery and Karson are expected to be at the top after the state tournament. Make sure to show your support to our LaFayette Wrestlers as they move toward a big showing in the State Tournament in Macon, GA next week.

Big Region Win vs. The Top Ranked Team in the State!!!

By Kevin Kremb and Junior Barber

The LaFayette Rambler Basketball team played at home Tuesday night, January 26th vs. Sonoraville. The whole game it had seemed like the Ramblers were on fire, especially after losing to them a week before. Junior standout Junior Barber really stepped up in this game, scoring 18 points and Senior DeCameron Porter and Junior Aidan Hadaway each had a great game in the paint, grabbing a combined total of 32 rebounds and blocking 5 shots. The highlight of the game came as there were two minutes left, and Junior Aidan Hadaway dribbled the ball up the court as the Sonorville defender was draped on him. He dribbles the ball behind his back and made his defender fall completely down. Some incredible dribbling skills from Aidan. The final score of the game was 54-43 in favor of the Ramblers. The LaFayette Ramblers are looking to continue their run to being #1 in the region, hosting Coahulla Creek, on Tuesday, February 2.
