Online vs In-person Learning: Another Look

By: An Editorial 1/27/21

There's a continuous debate on whether learning online, or in-person learning is easier or worse for both the students and teacher. In order to find out, I've asked a couple of students to answer a few questions

First up is Jonathan Moore. He believes that learning online is harder, as he is more used to in-person learning and finds it harder to focus opposed to being in the classroom. When I asked him if he feels he is making progress, he said, "yes". The timing has given him opportunities and time to do his work properly, and effectively. He said "...the virtual students must be very skilled to learn online..." and explained further, saying that the teachers must find it challenging too as they're responsible for managing both online and in-person students.

I then asked Kayla Parris. She finds it harder having experienced virtual first hand and not doing too hot. She feels this school year is doing "okay" due to the social distancing and overall change within the school. It's harder to communicate between the students online and in-person.

Much like a lot of other students and Kayla, I too have had experience with working virtually and in the classroom. I can agree it was difficult working from home. If bad weather hits, then uploading work from my phone to my computer takes time and often times it has booted me from the meeting. I'm not sure, even after the pandemic ends, virtual learning will end. However difficult it may be, it's convenient in more ways than one.
