Why this course: The course is fundamentally structured around developing critical thinking and communication skills within a framework that values personal growth. It aims at broadening the students' English knowledge while supporting them across all subjects and encouraging them to gain NCEA credits. It emphasizes principles like high expectations, inclusion, cultural diversity, and coherence and promotes values like excellence, integrity, diversity, and equity. Moreover, it aims to enhance the student's ability in using language in an extensive way, symbols and texts, creative thinking and participating and contributing meaningfully at school and in society.
Course information: The course is structured around thematic learning units and a holistic development of the four skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) alongside targeted grammar and vocabulary instruction. It also includes summative NCEA assessments and formative ones throughout the four terms. While level 2 assessments cannot be used for literacy purposes, they do contribute to the overall number of credits for this level.
