use efficient keyboarding to develop speed and accuracy
Spacing between each new word
This week we will be focusing on keyboarding skills - using the home keys (a,s,d,f space bar j,k,l, and the semi-colon) spacing, font and paragraphs.
Spelling activities will be done each day. You will work on sounds and words with specific learned sounds within them.
You will not always do the activities on Spelling Shed, but you will do the majority of them on this app.

We will revisit our daily QAR cards and power point lessons, then we will learn about root words.
Question Answer Relationship Cards (QAR)
Using the Narrative Organiser on the right, we will continue to write, about our favourite people (Amorangi and Millie) who are on a very big journey, and are travelling back in time to find their mum. At this point, we need to be finishing off writing the characteristics of the characters in the story, and begin to add details about the setting.
Don't forget to add the appealing vocabulary you have been learning about to your writing to capture the attention of our readers. We also need to be checking our spelling and capital letters.
Ako:
We are learning how to interview a class mate using carpool karaoke. First we must think of our most favourite singer or rap artist, then we will have to think of some of the most important questions that we would want to ask that artist if we ever got the opportunity to meet them. Also, we have to think of one or two songs that the artist is famous for, and include those songs somewhere in the script. All of this work will have to be recorded in our Literacy books.
To support us, we have to watch a video of Harry Style and James Corden while they are driving to work. The two celebrities are interviewing while going to work, it's pretty funny!
Hanga:
after chosing our favourite artist who we would like to interview, and have written down our questions that we would ask our artist, we have to choose a buddy who would like to interview us, using our own questions. We have to practice our rolls by interviewing each other before we record the final interview.
Tohatoha:
Blog your Google Slide deck with your video embeded on it.
Learning Intention:
I can get my cool ideas ready and write an awesome start to my writing!
Success Criteria:
I can use a plan (like a mind map or list) to get all my ideas down.
I can write a first sentence that makes people want to read more (a hook!).
I can tell everyone what my writing is about in my first part.
I can use great words to make my start sound interesting.
My Awesome Story Start Checklist!
Characters!
Did I tell you who my story is about? (Are they cool?)
Setting!
Did I tell you where my story happens? (Is it a neat place?)
Place and Time!
Did I tell you when my story happens? (Is it a long time ago, or right now?)
Hook!
Did I write a first sentence that makes you want to keep reading? (Is it exciting?)
Brainstorming = Lots of ideas!
Essentially, brainstorming is the "idea-gathering" stage,
Click on the Narrative Writing Story Maps Google Slide to find a plan that will support your writing.
Planning = How to use those ideas!
Planning is the "idea-organising" stage.
Use the Kiwi Kids Google Slide deck to record the information about the article that you have chosen.
think about the article you have chosen. Is the article a report that is to persuade your thinking to agree with the author's ideas? Is the article a report that is about something that has happened?
What tense is the article written in? Is it written in past tense or present tense?
What sort of punctuation is included in the article? Do you see any speechmarks? Are there any commas? What other punctuation do you notice?
Click on the pic above. The link will take you to a Student Workbook that involves you filling in as you learn about Te Awa o Waitara.
Begin by making a copy of the Google Slide, and save it in your Inquiry drive.
Before filling in your workbook, find a pic online of the Waitara awa. Save the pic as your background.
Title your slide as Te Awa.
Happy learning about our awa!
Ako:
we are learning about what trees /plants are native to Aotearoa/New Zealand, and understand how these trees are significant to us.
Hanga:
You must choose an Aotearoa/New Zealand native tree to research. As part of the research you must have the following facts:
The scientific name
Where the plant can be found in Aotearoa/New Zealand
The trees’ use (what was or is it used for?)
The hazards (danger) of the tree if any
The colour of the flower (if it has one)
What the name of the tree means and where the name originated from.
Inclusive of your research, you must also include a sketch of your chosen tree.
Each part of your research has to be written in your Literacy books - dated every time, and all research MUST be written in your own words, NOT directly cut and pasted from the internet or taken directly from your source of information.
Tohatoha:
Blog your work on your own individual class blog. If you preented your research project on a presentation board, then take a photo of it and present it on your blog.
Because we do a lot of our mahi on the Chromebooks, it is important to know that every website that we look at, everything that we click on, leaves a footprint.
Do you know the correct way to hold your Chromebook?
Are we aloud to eat and drink around our Chromebooks?
Let's get to work by clicking on the Google Slide on the left;
Make a copy of the slide
Initial the slide with the first letter of your first name and the last letter of your last name
Save the slide in your Cybersmart folder.
