Females The rules have changed from August 2021
The requirement for women with long hair to tie it up in a bun is removed and individuals may choose how they wish to wear their hair in uniform. The new options include; a ponytail or plait, braids, twists, cornrows or locks.
Hair extensions, weaves and wigs are permitted providing they are of a neutral colour, do not extend below the belt, and can be worn with the appropriate headdress.
All will continue to be required to ensure that their hair is well groomed and styled away from the face. In certain circumstances such as formal parades and for specific safety purposes, women may still be required to wear their hair up but for routine duties this rule now applies.
For formal parades (such as Remembrance Sunday) hair is to be neat and worn above the collar. Combs, grips etc if worn, are to be plain and similar in colour to the hair. Longer hair must be in a low tight bun. The hair net, (if worn) is to be of the same colour as the hair. The style and colour (if not natural) of the hair is not to be of an exaggerated nature.
