Watch my video below about why I teach!
(transciption below the video)
I teach art because students need a place to explore who they are, how to get and stay creative, and understand more about the diversity of the world.
The wonderful thing about art is that it can teach us about ourselves. When we work with art we work with big questions that bring us closer to who we are. Some questions we tackle are: What is love? What are you passionate about? What is your worst memory and best memory? What did life teach you yesterday? When students explore these questions with art, they learn more about themselves and become more confident as individuals.
Students also need a way to find their creativity and maintain it. All humans are born creative, but somewhere along aging, we lose faith in our own creative ability. I teach because creativity is needed to improve the world around us and help solve problems in our society. Students need to find creativity again so that our community can find creativity again.
Also, I teach to show students that the world is bigger and more diverse than we could ever imagine. There are so many ideas, inspirations and techniques that we can discover. When students explore the arts of the world and broaden their minds to what they can make, they understand that we are all different but we are also all human. I want to create an environment that welcomes all types of people and different ideas.
The Earth without art is just eh… I want to give students a space to be safe, explore who they are, regain their creativeness, and view the world through art.
