*The AP Studio Art page on this website is still under construction. Some sections might still be missing or incomplete.
The purpose of the AP Art and Design Class is to help you develop your creative and technical skills, and to encourage you to become an independent thinker!
The course also helps you learn how to investigate ideas and communicate them through art.
With AP Studio Art, you can earn college credit, advanced placement, or both.
How to investigate ideas, materials, and processes
How to practice, experiment, and revise art works
How to communicate ideas about art and design
How to make art as an ongoing process
How to use visual elements and principles in compositional forms
You will create a portfolio of college-level work that reflects their ideas, skills, and what you've learned. The portfolio is the AP Exam.
You will demonstrate your inquiry-based investigation of materials, processes, and ideas
You will explain the why, how, and connection between decisions made and the completed artwork
There are 3 sections for your portfolio:
Sustained Investigation - 15 works of art made this school year that is a body of related works which demonstrate and inquiry-based investigation of materials, processes, and ideas. (60% of your total score)
Selected Works - 5 featured artworks that demonstrate your best skillful synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas. (40% of total score)
Written Evidence - Writings that communicate thoughtfully what your art is about and what you learned through making art.
There are 3 different portfolios that you can make. Take a look at each one to see what is right for you!
Once you make a choice, this is the one you are going to sign up for in November. You cannot switch after.
