for Mid-Term Grads
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
It is a graduation requirement that all students either complete the FAFSA form, or file a waiver stating that they are choosing to skip the form, before earning a high school diploma in the state of Illinois. Class of 2026 students should fill out the 2026-27 FAFSA.
To fill out the FAFSA, first create an FSA ID here: FSA ID Then fill out the 2026-27 FAFSA form itself here: www.fafsa.gov It can take up to 2-3 days for your FSA ID to be validated before you will be eligible to complete the FAFSA form.
To fill out the waiver form, click here: FAFSA Non-Participation Form (Scroll allllll the way down and click on the "FAFSA Nonparticipation Form" button at the bottom of the page.)
WHAT SHOULD I DO ONCE I'VE FILLED OUT THE FAFSA?
You will get an email from the US Department of Education that is titled "We've Received Your FAFSA Form." Just forward that email to your counselor and you're all set! Counselor email addresses can be found on the "Meet the Counseling Staff" portion of our webpage.

What is a Mid-Term Graduate?
Mid-Term Graduates are seniors who have enough credits to graduate in December of their senior year instead of May. In essence, students attend high school for 3.5 years instead of 4.
To qualify to be a mid-term graduate, students must:
Start their senior year with 18.5 credits or more.
Make arrangements in advance with their counselor.
Have parent or guardian approval to leave school one semester early.
Stay in contact with RHS staff and students to remain aware of key senior & graduation information.
Mid-term graduates can still walk across the graduation stage with their graduating class in May, attend prom, attend the senior trip, and participate in other senior events. Mid-term graduates CANNOT participate in winter or spring sports or clubs. Mid-term graduates will also lose access to their school email addresses, Google Classrooms, and SchooLinks account in mid-January.
