The AT (Assistive Technology) team would like to share with you our new website where you can learn more about AAC (augmentative and alternative communication), see upcoming events, and ask questions about AAC. You can access the website by clicking the image or by clicking here. We hope this proves to be helpful to everyone who has a student using an AAC or knows someone with an AAC system!
On this site you can:
Learn more about what AAC is
How to use it in your classroom
How to model on an AAC device
See FAQ (frequently asked questions) and submit questions about AAC
Find AAC resources
And so much more
Thank you to all our wonderful SLPs (speech and language pathologist), Education Specialists, and General Education Teachers who have been working so hard to implement AAC into their classrooms for their non-speaking/limited speaking students. You are all amazing and we are truly grateful for you all and what you do for our students!

Individualized Reclassification is a process by which an English Learner student with an IEP may be reclassified as a fluent English proficient student. Students with disabilities, including severe cognitive disabilities, should be provided the same opportunities to be reclassified as students without disabilities. The Individualized Reclassification process may be appropriate when the IEP team determines that an English Learner student with an IEP would benefit from reclassification, but the student’s disability prevents the student from meeting the standard reclassification criteria.
The IEP site team members will need to consider measures of English language proficiency (ELPAC or alternate assessment if appropriate, e.g. VCCALPS) and performance levels in basic skills that would be equivalent to an English proficient peer with similar disabilities. If the IEP team determines that the primary reason the student does not meet standard reclassification criteria is due to the disability rather than limited English proficiency, and the student's English language proficiency is commensurate with similarly disabled English proficient peers, the IEP team can recommend that the student be reclassified via the Individualized Reclassification process.
Please see the EL Individualized Reclassification Process infographic for all necessary steps to take when reclassifying an EL student with an IEP.
