Role partners are colleagues that ensure the new employee understands their role and what their manager and the organization expect of them.
A ROLE PARTNER IS:
A member of the new hire’s team or department;
has been employed for more than one year and has a good performance history;
is compatible with the new hire in education, temperament, job assignment, etc.;
is familiar with the new hire’s job;
is eager to be a role partner and fully supports Virginia Tech;
And has the patience, good communication, and interpersonal skills needed.
By partnering a new hire with a role partner, we can expect that:
It takes the new hire only a short time to become familiar with the team's norms, policies, and procedures.
New hires will have an easier time forming relationships with others. (because they have a support system)
After new hires have clarified their responsibilities and roles in the department, they become more productive sooner
