Culture champions are Virginia Tech volunteers
that work with newcomers after the first three months of their employment to introduce the opportunities they have to learn and grow. They support and guide the newcomer to become comfortable with the day-to-day aspects of working at Virginia Tech and open the treasure trove of institutional knowledge and values.
KEY CHARACTERISTICS
Communicator: You should provide relevant information to the newcomer and encourage a process of continued exploration.
Role Model: You should be a model employee and exemplify VT values.
Motivated: You should have a positive outlook on your work and use that perspective to help build self-confidence and loyalty in the newcomer.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Contact, meet with the newcomer, and establish a rapport.
Help socialize the newcomer to VT’s principles, norms, and culture.
Answer general/broader questions about what makes us unique.
Make critical introductions.
Keep in touch with the newcomer at least biweekly.
