Debbie has served Virginia Tech and Alumni Relations for over 30 years. She began her career in the National Capital Region, establishing Virginia Tech’s first satellite office for alumni in 1987. She moved to Blacksburg in the mid-1990’s and has worked in a variety of areas within Alumni Relations including chapters programs, reunions, student programs, community service and diversity and inclusion.
She is the team leader for alumni directors in nine colleges and four units at Virginia Tech, including Inclusion and Diversity, Student Affairs, the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, and the Graduate School. Debbie was appointed Director of the Office of Recovery and Support in 2008 and continues to work with families and the university on matters related to the April 16 tragedy at Virginia Tech.
Debbie, a three-time Hokie, is married to JS Brown ’89 ESM. They reside in Blacksburg and are proud that their three children have followed in their footsteps as Hokies.
Debbie earned a BA in Communication in 1984, an MS in Adult and Continuing Education in 1993 and a Ph.D. in Higher Education in 2018.
