Cristina Rosa Castaner joined Virginia Tech in February of 2013 as the Office Assistant for the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics (BEAM). She also held a position in BEAM as the Administrative Assistant for a few months in 2014 before being promoted to her current role as the Human Resources Administrator for the department. In her current role, she is responsible for providing administrative and fiscal support to the Director of Operations, Assistant Director of Operations, and Fiscal Team. In addition, she serves as a source of HR information and liaison between employees and the Central HR Division
Before coming to Virginia Tech, Cristina worked for a local tax resolution company as the Team Leader supervising a team of three employees with a portfolio of 300+ nationwide clients in need of representation with federal and local taxing authorities. During that time, she resolved numerous cases saving her clients a yearly record of $1M to $4M for three consecutive years. This success led her to win a company competition for outstanding savings for her clients. Cristina also worked at Virginia Tech’s Bookstore (on-campus) as a clerk before getting promoted to Administrative Assistant for the Controller and the Accounting Team.
Cristina Rosa Castaner earned a Bachelor’s in Business Administration in 2004 from the University of Puerto Rico (San Juan Campus) and will complete a Master’s Degree from Virginia Tech in May of 2023. After finishing graduate school, Cristina plans to obtain her certification in Human Resources.
