Thanks for your interest in the Accelerated (4+1) MEng CSA Program!
As a part of your admissions application you must complete the Accelerated UG/GR Degree and Course Designation form. This form should plan out the 3-12 credits you are planning to double count towards your MEng degree. You should ALWAYS complete this form with your undergraduate advisor to ensure you are meeting your undergraduate degree requirements.
Once you select your courses, sign the form, and receive your UG advisor's signature, you should be adding it to your admissions applications. You do not need the department head, department contact, or Graduate School's signatures to submit.
Please see the basics for double counting and some suggestions below!
Basic Guidelines
Maximum of 12 credits (4 courses)
Allowed to utilize 6 credits (2 courses) of 4000-level courses
Only allowed 1 cognate (non-CS) course throughout your time in the MEng program (accelerated and full-time)
If you choose to double count a course outside of CS, that is the only course outside of CS that can count towards your MEng degree
Approved Suggestions
Most CS 4000-level or 5000-level
These can be electives or courses in a concentration you are interested in
Some choose to complete the UG theory requirement (CS4104 or CS5114)
CS 4000-level Capstone (or CMDA Capstone as a cognate)
Your undergraduate elective would count towards one of your MEng electives within your graduate program. It does not replace CS 5934 capstone. All MEng students are required to complete CS 5934 Capstone
CS 5024 Ethics and Professionalism
Be sure to check courses that overlap (included list below)
There are a few undergraduate courses that overlap with graduate level ones! If you are having trouble selecting 5000-level courses, this is a great place to start. If you have taken the 4000-level course, you cannot also count the graduate level course towards your degree.
If you take the 4000-level of a course within your desired concentration, it can still fulfil that concentration requirement.
ANYTHING below 4000-level
CS5040 (unless you are a non-CS major completing a minor)
6000-level courses
CS5020 (already completed UG equivalent)
Anything listed on Grad Course listed with statement “Not for CS Graduate Credit”
i.e. CS5944 Seminar, CS5974 Independent Study, CS5020, CS5044, CS5045-6
No research seminars or hours regardless of level
If you intend on participating in Project Based Learning (or Integrative Design Project), you should not double count the following courses: CS5024, CS5704, CS5744, or CS5934
