Small Talk
There are going to be many circumstances where you will encounter people in hallways, while shopping etc., Learn to say and respond to phrases like "How's it going!". Many times, these are not deep conversations you have, so learn to find a balance!
Crosswalks
The crosswalks system may be different from your country! (PRO TIP: Use the buttons located on the edge of each sidewalk to cross the roads!)
Ice
Yes, there is ice in almost every drink you get here, so be sure to be ready for that!
Automated systems
A lot of public transportation systems are automated here, meaning everything is done through machines. (Example: the train systems around Washington DC, Bus systems, etc.)
Time management
As you go forward in your college career, you will realize that especially in the USA, there is a huge hustle culture. Meaning you will need to learn to manage time very well. From being on time for meetings (even with friends for dinner) to submitting assignments on time and managing extensions, time management is crucial to survive in the USA.
Relationship with professors
At VT, you will get the opportunity to interact with many professors from different backgrounds and different teaching styles. Some may want you to call them by their first name, some may like you to call them with a 'Dr.' or other prefixes.
