Black College Institute Pre-College Program

About the Event

The Department of Geosciences is worked together with the VT College of Science and the Black College Institute to provide science outreach activities to high school students visiting Virginia Tech for the Black College Institute Pre-College Program.

About 120 "talented, high achieving and intellectually curious rising high school juniors and seniors" were invited to VT "to participate in a 5-day academic summer enrichment program."


  • When: Tuesday, June 18th; 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM

  • Where: Derring Hall room 3076

  • Number of Students: ~120 (3 groups of 30-40)

Visiting students and chaperones were divided into three groups of 30-40 prior to the event. Each group arrived at their designated locations at 8:30 AM to begin the first rotation. Each rotation lasted approximately 50 minutes. After each rotation, the students moved to their next assigned rotation.
