Concurrent Enrollment or College in the Schools (CIS) classes are college courses taught by Verndale teachers during the regular school day.
Verndale offers the following concurrent and CIS classes:

MATH 1114: College Algebra
MATH 1115: Functions/Trigonometry
MATH 1134: Calculus I
MATH 1213: Intro to Statistics
Central Lakes College
BIOL 1415: Environmental Biology
BIOL 1404: Human Biology
Southwest Minnesota State University
LIT 120: Global Literature Perspective
ENG 151: Academic Writing
Students interested in taking concurrent or CIS courses are to meet with Mrs. Tackmann to review eligibility requirements, graduation planning, and dedication needed to take on college courses.
Academic guidelines require a certain GPA. Some colleges/universities may have additional requirements that can be found on their school website.

- Students that don’t meet the GPA requirements, but are close may complete an admissions appeal.
Review credit check and graduation plan to make sure the student is on track and has room in their schedule for concurrent courses.
Apply to the college of your choice. Use the online application.
Have Mrs. Tackmann send your transcript and complete a letter of recommendation if needed.
Once the student has been accepted to the college, they must complete the math and reading Accuplacer test to be placed into college level courses. Each college/university sets their admittance requirements. Students must meet the minimum guidelines in order to register for concurrent courses. Retakes are allowed, as well as taking the Accuplacer at the college.

Similar to PSEO courses, students must meet eligibility requirements before taking concurrent or CIS courses. These requirements include GPA, Accuplacer scores, and pre-requisite coursework. Sophomores are eligible to take concurrent courses as long as they meet all eligibility requirements. The following is required for each respective college, additional requirements can be found on school websites:
MState- GPA seniors 2.8, juniors & sophomores 3.2
CLC- GPA seniors 2.5, juniors & sophomores 3.0
SWSU- seniors top 50% of class, juniors top 70% of class
