All mention of VPHS includes the students in 8th grade that are a part of the High School Band class period.
Concert Band –The VPHS Concert Band is focused on continuing the foundation of musicianship from middle school and serves as a strong community focus throughout the school year. After school performances for the concert band include a winter concert, a spring concert, and a high school graduation performance. School day performances include a Heroes Day performance, Golden Club Breakfast performance, Performance and Clinic at Jefferson R-7 High School and other school wide pep assemblies. Concert band students are encouraged to audition for the All Suburban District Band.
Participation in the solo and small ensemble district and state contest is also encouraged.
Pep Band – All VPHS band students are required to participate in the pep band unless they play on the basketball team or are on the cheer squad. The VPHS pep band rehearses during class time and performs at a minimum of 4 basketball games. Pep band season typical runs from November to February.
Uniforms
Concert band – students will be asked to dress professionally for concert band performances. This means no tennis shoes, flip flops, t-shirts, jeans, short skirts/dresses, etc.
Performance off campus – students will be asked to wear all black when representing Valley Park band off campus at festivals that require judging. Ideally, this would be nice black clothing, with no extra writing or pictures. Black pants or skirts are acceptable, as long as they meet the school dress code allowance.
