We want to build a pan-european citizens science sensor network that collects context specific reallife data and micro-narratives (the voice of the people of Europe) to understand and counter polarisationin society and to find ways forward through diverse sensemaking. Find out more at eurosense.eu
Our project creates a decentralised Sensor Network for Europeans using SenseMaker software to detect weak signals in society and to identify hidden patterns missed by conventional research methods. Citizen scientists across Europe, co-create a citizen science journey, which, based on the EU Field Guide of managing complexity report, empowers citizens to act in complexity and influence politics.
In 2025 the focus is :
Capacity building: Training series for 5 sensor communities to collect stories across Europe (Distributed Ethnography), organise sensemaking events, co-create action and policy influencing.
Data Collection: Develop use cases to demonstrate how sensor communities can address a subject of pressing interest locally or through policy influencing.
Sensemaking/Data analysis: Sensemaking events collectively interpret stories, to discover narratives, and identify local action that can be implemented “tomorrow”. Sensor community focuses on a local theme, involving citizens, politicians and NGOs.
Seed funding local action: Testing seed funding for community action inspired by a local sensemaking event (politicians have funds already).( if we manage to raise funds)
Result dissemination and networking: Exchange event where sensor communities present their use case, and strengthen the sensor network among them, as well as with researchers and civil society actors interested in joining the sensor network.
Consolidation: Secure funding and prepare for partnership building in 2026-2028.
This site emerges from the training sessions started in fabruary 2025. The aim is to collect and organize the content created so far , as a prototype for a training platform that will support the growth of the network. For the moment it mostly consists of the slides presented during the training.
The videos of the four sessions are available on youtube ( on Roberto's private channel, if there is a Volteuropa channel, the videos can be moved) . They are collected in a playlist accessible here.
The individual videos are :
You can navigate this site using the menu on the left side, and find more information and links on each of the sessions.
We run introductory sessions to present the training program to interested people.
The slides of the introductiry session are shown below
The training material has been developed by Roberto Bonino and Bastiaan van Horn
The imput of all participants to the training sessions has been invaluable in refining structuring the material.
