Jack Daniel's Whiskey
A TASTE OF TENNESSEE
A TASTE OF TENNESSEE
The name Jack Daniel’s has been renowned in the south and in the United States for over 150 years, becoming an iconic American brand. Jack Daniel’s was founded in 1866 in Lynchburg, TN, and the main distillery is still located there today. Jack Daniel's has been able to create a drink and brand that has been quintessential to the development of the state of Tennessee economically and culturally. This brand has a unique history as it was kick started during the heights of slavery and civil war in the United States. Jack Daniels learned the art of distillery from an enslaved man named Nathan “Nearest” Green. This partnership defined Jack Daniel’s as a brand and was truly the start of it all.
It takes an extremely talented group of individuals, over many generations, to keep a brand relevant for 150 years and staying afloat during 28 long years of Tennesse's prohibition movement in the 1900's. Since its founding, Jack Daniel’s has not only been a popular form of whiskey, but a standout, when you think Tennessee Whiskey, you think Jack Daniel's. This brand has remained dominant in many aspects, not only for its solid product, genius marketing, and economic impact, but also for what Jack Daniel’s represents. The concept that this American brand founded by hard working, blue collar and enslaved Americans and produced purely on American soil, represents the very ideals of our country, especially the south. This “pioneer spirit” that this brand reflects makes it trusted by Americans everywhere. Jack Daniel's has done an amazing job at staying relevant, yet straying away from being trendy, and adjusting to 21st century technology, but never abandoning their roots. Jack Daniel’s has proved itself over the last century and half to be a trusted symbol of craftsmanship, tradition, excellence, and authenticity.
Through this virtual museum exhibit, you will learn about the rich history of Jack Daniel's, the process of distilling whiskey, and this company's positive effect on Tennessean culture and the economy. You will get a visual and comprehensive look at distilling technology, Tennessee history, southern tradition and what 1866 in America really looked like. The goal of this exhibit is that you not only learn what an impact Jack Daniel’s Whiskey has had on Tennessee, but you also learn just a little bit more about this great state that we call home. With its amber hue and notes of vanilla, cinnamon, and oak this smooth spirit has undeniably shaped the south forever.
