Our travel day had been long and tiresome, starting from the wee hours of the morning around 7 am. When we made it to our humble abode located at Gamle Oslo, it was already around 3pm. Thankfully, what greeted us was our lovely little apartment. Cozy, warm, this is where we were spending our next five weeks eating, sleeping and living. This little airbnb we had booked ourselves ahead of time.
On our first night we unpacked, celebrated with a dinner out and seeing our neighbourhood a bit. Crashing into bed soon after. Sleeping early, as tomorrow awaited our first day at work. We both slept awfully well mind you! Sure we were tired, but we had lucked out. Even the beds here were awfully comfortable.
Our internship would take place at a smaller, but still considerable sized factory bakery referred to as United Bakeries. A company making many different kinds of breads. While having the help of bigger machinery, workers still did the majority by hand. On our first day, starting 9 am, we were shown around the bakery. Shown where to get our work clothes (a white shirt, a red cap), where the break room was, bathrooms resided and ofcourse our working space as a whole. Alongside introducing us to our fellow workers.
Our supervisors were Julien L'Hermite and Gildas Mevel. Gildas showed us around and was also the person we would usually go to when we needed to find more work to do.
Our weeks would interchange when either of us went to work. One of us for 8 am, the other for 10 am and switching the next week. Each days shift was 8 hours long with a 30 minute work break included within that timeframe.
Most of our first week was spent learning the layout of the place, getting to know the workers and working. We were mostly split around working at the focacco area, prepairing plates, forming the dough, cutting it and other dough preperations. Being shown how to use our hands and fingers to form the dough. Alongside focacco we also worked at one of the bread forming rooms. Folding baguettes, forming other breads and assembling little breads.
First week was admittedly tiring and rough on our feet. Ending workdays too tired to do much else, our feet and bodies aching. It was hard work. We averaged around 10k steps each day. Usually, the tasks themselves weren't complicated, just physically demanding after a while. We also ended up pretty dirty at the end of the days, showers after work became a routine.
she box on my card 'till i fold
After work on weekdays we'd usually make and eat/make dinner together, hangout or simply relax and rest our bodies in our own respective rooms. It was domestic and an arguably nice aspect of it all.
...or visit eachothers rooms!
During the first few days, our teacher, Kristi Luht, was also staying at Oslo for a few days to see us settle in and make sure we were gonna be alright. On tuesday night, we enjoyed some cookies and tea alltogether!
During the weekend is when we were more able to look around and explore. As it was the first week, we thought that we would go and explore around closer, more local areas!
One of our first place that we decided to visit was an art store. The alleyway leading there was full of different and unique kinds of street art! The art store itself also turned out to be quite surprisingly huge and organized.

so so pretty!
Later that day we decided to go and explore more around the middle of the city and some shopping centres. We had a lot of fun just walking around and looking around in some stores. We decided to make some lasting memories by getting silly pictures with each other! Once it was lunchtime we spotted a really cute cafe to eat at!
