Here are commonly asked questions about the Library. For answers to questions not addressed here, browse the web site or submit your question to the 'Ask the Librarian'
1. How to enroll for the Library?
All the students are enrolled as a member of the college library. The first year students need to fill up the membership form of the library. Duly filled application form along with appropriate identification should be submitted at the Help Desk with two recent, coloured passport size photograph to the library.

2. Who can become member of the Vivekananda College Library?
The library services are open to registered members of college. Click here to get the membership criteria.
3. What is the fee for membership?
There are no registration charges for the Library Membership. It is open to all the staff, faculty and students of the college.
4. What are the formalities to be completed to become member of this Library?

5. From where can we get the form for membership registration?
Membership form can be had from the help desk, from the Circulation Counter.
6. Where is the help desk located?
Help desk is located on first floor at the entrance of the library.
7. What type of help can I get at the help desk?
The reference desk or information desk or help desk of a library is a public service desk where professional staff of the library provides library users with direction to library materials, advise on library services and assist users to find general information from the library's resources. Library users can also consult the staff at the reference desk (2nd Floor of Library) for help in finding information.
Typically, a reference desk can be consulted either in person, or through Email: librarian@vivekanand.du.ac.in or through various social media platforms of the library. Library also runs a service e-Vartalaap to answer the queries online in virtual mode on Friday 11:00am to 11:30am. Although a library user may be asked to come to the library in person, for help with more involved research questions. If a desired book has been checked out, one can place the book 'on hold', which prevents the person who has checked it out from renewing it, and the person who placed the 'hold' is notified when the book has been returned.

9. How to get a book issued?
Check from OPAC, details as well as availability status of the required book. Then go to the respective shelf, take out the book. Produce book along with your Library Membership smart card and reader ticket at the circulation desk. The staff at the circulation desk will scan your smart card and book shall be issued.
Please check the condition of the book and pages of the book at the time of getting it issued. At the entry point get your book checked by the staff on duty

11. What is the fine for delay in return of book?
Rs. 2.00 per day per book is charged as the fine for the overdue books.

14. What is the procedure of getting a duplicate library smart card?
Fill the form for issuing of duplicate ticket, available at the help desk/ circulation desk. Submit filled form along with fine at the help desk. A fine of Rs.20.00 is charged for preparation of each duplicate readers' ticket and Rs.100/- for smart card of the library.

16. If a book is not available in the library but is worth to be purchased for library, what is the procedure to recommend it?
Users can recommend any book which is worth to be kept in library stock. Faculty/students can recommend book/s on the prescribed pro forma with recommendations of head of the department. Printed Recommendation form/ Feedback form is available at help desk. It may be done through online book recommendation form also.
17. For how many days an overnight book is issued and what is the overdue fine for it:?
Books are not issued for short term (over night) duration. In special case it is discretionary power of the Library-In-Charge.
