Reflection on Growth
I think that the first project pitch can be improved by listening to peer feedback and changing it so that it can be connected to our problems. A specific feedback we received is that we didn't add in the magazine outline and we need to stick to one topic, so we changed our topic to be focusing on the visually impaired and remade the entire project pitch. The moodboard from week 3 connects with the PBL class from last semester, because I used a similar style to do the moodboard and is a very good way to organize. Comparing the two project pitches from week 4 and 5, there is a big difference in what I did between both of them. I have grown to provide and research more information about the community partner. Something that I need to improve is the communication skills and research capabilities, because communicating with my friends/teammates are pretty hard and most of my research aren't looking to good, a plan to improve this is to work with my team and improve over time.
3. Social Justice Investigation
The social justice my group is focusing is on both the sidewalks in Taiwan and the visually impaired, since the visually impaired might encounter unfinished walkways and they could trip if there's no tactile pavements and barriers. There's a lot of unfinished sidewalks in Taiwan to this day.
4. Graphic Design Growth
At first i didn't care much about the visually impaired and sidewalks, but after 7 weeks, I realized that these social justice needs to be taken cared for. The most important thing i've learned about graphic design is that it is used in a lot of magazines and books, and it has helped my project on creating a magazine about our social justice
This is the logo design, we have to draw 50 sketches and pick the top options. These are not mine but Nathan's, we used these for a general idea of our logo
In these weeks, we are making our magazine and finishing our logo design, this image represents the draft and design we had for the magazine
Final reflection:
I have worked on the community partner section of the magazine. My contribution to it was getting information by interviewing them. Some specific feedback I got was that my tangible design was a bit small, so I made the design bigger and more focused on the embossing. Compared to my past working habits, I have learned to focus on one thing that I am good at, and I have grown to trust my teammates more because of their determination on doing the PBL. One thing I still need to improve in PBL is the lack of creativity. My plan for improvement is to think like Albert Einstein. The thing that surprised me the most is that there are not many guide dogs in Taiwan, one misconception is that I thought the white cane only has one variant. People still ignore about the unfinished sidewalks in Taipei, since it’s a terrifying place for the visually impaired , the investigation change the way I think because the visually impaired needs to be treated well. My design has improved over time, and the technique I used for the design is embossing, the design helps by giving them a sense of touch, and the design decision I am most proud of is the embossing that because it is a fun way to play with.
These final week I am prioritizing the tangible design, it's like a hard job since I have to cut the mold and emboss it, it takes a lot of time in general
