SEL Reflection Journal
My SEL goals are mostly about controlling my own emotions and try my best to do my school work.I haven't achieve the second one but I think I am better on controlling my emotions compared to the start of the semester.
Eco House Project
For this project, I researched LED lights and how they help make homes more eco-friendly. I learned that LED lights use much less energy than regular bulbs and last a lot longer, which means saving both money and electricity. They also produce less heat, making them safer and more efficient. I found different brands and prices online and compared their energy use and lifespan. Overall, LED lighting is an easy and affordable way to reduce energy waste in a house.
I chose Los Angeles as the location for my ecohouse because it has a warm climate with lots of sunlight year-round. This makes it perfect for using solar panels to generate clean energy. LA also has mild winters, so the house won’t need much heating, which saves energy. However, I would need to plan for drought conditions by using rain barrels or water-saving systems. Earthquake safety would also be important when designing the structure. Overall, LA is a great place for an eco house that focuses on solar power and water conservation.
In this activity, I collected price data from different suppliers for LED lights and calculated the mean and median to find which supplier offered the best deal. The mean showed the average price, while the median helped me see the middle value without being affected by very high or low prices. By comparing both, I could tell which supplier was the most cost-effective overall. This activity helped me understand how math can be used to make smarter, real-world buying decisions.
I chose Los Angeles for my ecohouse because its sunny and warm climate makes it perfect for using solar energy. The city gets many hours of sunlight each year and has mild winters, which helps save energy for heating. There isn’t much rainfall, so I would include rain barrels or water-saving systems. LA is close to the ocean, which can help cool the air naturally, but I would also need to consider the risk of earthquakes. Overall, Los Angeles is a great location for building a sustainable ecohouse that uses solar power efficiently.
For this eco-house project, I researched LED lights to see which ones are the most energy-efficient and affordable. I compared three different brands and calculated the cost per watt and brightness per watt to find the best value. I learned that LED lights use much less electricity and last longer than regular bulbs, which helps save money and reduce energy waste. By calculating and comparing the data, I found that the supplier with the lowest cost per watt gave the best overall deal for both brightness and efficiency.
There are a few things I can improve in my Ecohouse Project and math work. First, I can improve my data analysis by double checkin g my calculations for mean and median to make sure my results are accurate. I can also make my Ecohouse design more sustainable by adding more energy-saving features, such as better insulation or a rainwater collection system. Lastly, I can work on my time management by starting my research and calculations earlier, giving myself more time to review and organize my work before submitting it.
Math connects to my other subjects in many ways. In science, I use math to measure data, calculate averages, and analyze results from experiments. In science, math helps me , calculate distances, and understand climate data like rainfall and temperature. Even in design or technology, math is important for measurements, budgeting, and comparing efficiency, like in the Eco House project. Math helps me make accurate decisions and understand real world problems using numbers and data.
One area I want to improve in is staying focused in class and not talking while the teacher is explaining. Sometimes I get distracted or want to chat with friends, but I know this affects my learning. To improve, I will remind myself to listen carefully, keep my eyes on the teacher, and wait until it’s the right time to talk. I will also sit away from distractions and take short notes to stay engaged. By doing this, I can understand lessons better and show more respect in class.
My classmate helped me understand how to calculate the mean and median correctly for my Ecohouse Data Activity. They explained an easier way to organize the numbers before finding the middle value, which made my work more accurate. This was really helpful when I had to compare different suppliers for LED lights and decide which one had the best offer.
