SDG Collage
In this project, we need to choose one SDG and use the elements from the magazine to combine into a collage. We have chosen SDG 16, which is about peace, justice, and strong institutions. One key improvement is that we did not start with a Canva draft, which made the design process less organized and affected the final result. Canva can help us to plan first; this step will help us avoid thinking while working. We may have different ideas in different seconds. I learned that planning and drafting are important for better design outcomes. In future work, I will begin with a draft and use feedback more effectively.
Currency Design
In this project, we need to redesign a 1000 dollar bill to feature underrepresented people from Taiwan's history and contemporary life. We have chosen Mona Rudao. Mona Rudao is an underrepresented person from an indigenous tribe in Taiwan who took part in the Wushe Incident. In our design, we have used elements such as mountains, the sun, and patterns from indigenous tribes that connect to nature. The currency redesign was also connected to my history class (in a previous school) because researching Mona Rudao and the Wushe Incident helped me better understand Indigenous resistance in Taiwan and represent it more respectfully in my design.
Mood Board
In this project, we need to make a mood board that connects to the topic we chose for our final project. For our final project we have chosen the injustice of indigenous tribes. In the first version of our mood board, we have put many works of art and pictures of indigenous people. But based on the feedback of our first pitch. We need to focus on one tribe. So we choose the Amis tribe because one of our seniors is from the Amis tribe, so we can have some support from him. We aim to create a visual board that represents their traditions, daily life, and cultural identity. It highlights important cultural elements and celebrates their heritage and contributions.
Project Pitch V1
In this pitch, we need to base our pitch on the topic we chose and explain the social justice issue in it. We also need to create a tangible design. We planned to create a tangible design that supporters could receive when they donate. This PPT is the first version of our project pitch. It introduces our project and explains the social issue we are focusing on, which is the celebration and representation of the Amis culture. It helps us clearly communicate our topic and ideas to others. This also connects to our previous PBL class, where we presented our game and received feedback on what could be improved, which helped us understand how to make our ideas clearer and stronger.
Project Pitch V2
This PPT is the final version of our project pitch. A specific piece of teacher feedback we received was to make our team roles and timeline more detailed, so in Project Pitch v2 we added clearer role assignments, a week-by-week production plan, and stronger research to make the presentation more professional, refining the design and strengthening our presentation. By applying this feedback, we made our pitch clearer, more organized, and more professional.
Logo Design
This emblem is our team logo. We selected the initial design as a group, and one of our teammates refined and redesigned it. After reviewing and discussing different ideas, we finalized it together as our official logo.
Brand kit
This is our brand kit for our project. We selected a font and visual style for our team to create a consistent identity. It helps unify our design across all materials and makes our project look more professional and organized.
Over the past seven weeks, I have improved in planning and presenting my ideas in PBL, with my recent projects showing better structure, communication, and teamwork compared to earlier work. Another improvement I noticed was in our Week 6 logo design, where the first version was too simple and did not fully represent Amis culture, so next time I would include more traditional symbols and cultural meaning earlier in the design process. However, I still need to improve my early planning because we sometimes start creating too quickly without organizing ideas first (for example, SDG Collage), which affects the final result. To improve, I will focus more on planning at the start by making drafts, assigning roles clearly, and using feedback earlier.
One social justice issue that our group is focusing on is the unfair treatment and misrepresentation of Indigenous communities. Our goal is to celebrate their culture and increase understanding so that stereotypes can be reduced. This issue affects Indigenous people directly, as their traditions, identity, and voices are often not fully recognized or respected in modern society. It is also local to us because Indigenous cultures, including the Amis people in Taiwan, are part of our community and history, yet they are often overlooked in daily life and education.
At the beginning of the semester, I felt that graphic design would be very difficult and that I would struggle with creating visual work. However, over the past seven weeks, my opinion has changed as I gained more experience through projects like logo and pitch design. I now feel more confident and understand that design is a process that improves through planning, feedback, and revision rather than just natural talent. The most important thing I have learned is the value of structuring ideas before designing, as it helps make the final product clearer and more meaningful. This has helped our project by making my work more organized and allowing me to improve my ideas step by step instead of rushing into the final result.
Final Logo Design
For our project, we created a logo to represent our social justice issue about misunderstanding. The black head with tangled lines represents stereotypes and misunderstandings, while the white head with a heart inside its brain represents understanding and empathy. This design helps communicate our message to the audience.
Magazine Draft 1
In Week 9, we started working on our magazine project. Our group discussed the topic, content, and overall design of the magazine. We created a rough layout and planned the basic structure. To work more efficiently, we divided the tasks into content writing and design, and I was mainly responsible for the design section. Through this process, I learned that good planning and communication are important because they help the group stay organized and work toward the same goal.
Magazine Draft 2
For our overall presentation improvement, we made Magazine Draft 2 with more written words and visual images. We made our writing better by giving more detailed explanations . This helped the readers understand the topic better . And we made small but important changes to the layout (spacing, organization, etc.) to make the magazine clearer and easier to read as well. These improvements helped us to make our work more structured, balanced visually and reader friendly.
Magazine Draft 3
This is our magazine draft 3; we started to put texts and layout inside Canva, and we found a lot of pictures to support our text. The feedback that we get is that people think that our magazine has too much text; also, a lot of images have no photo credit.
Magazine Draft 4
This is our magazine draft 3. While we have completed most of it, we believe there are still opportunities for layout improvements. Therefore, we have created an alternative layout that we feel enhances the overall presentation, ensuring it meets our standards for quality and visual appeal.
Final Magazine
After incorporating the final feedback, we have completed our magazine. Significant improvements have been made, including a transition to a lighter background color, enhancing the overall aesthetic. We believe these changes will create a more inviting and engaging experience for our readers, reflecting our commitment to quality and design.
This is our T-shirt design. We made this because we think it's simple, and people could see it every day. It connects to our issue and the affected group by reminding people not to judge others by first impressions and connecting to minority groups who have often been treated unfairly.
Mock Exhibition
During the mock exhibition, we presented our magazine, T-shirt, and process poster to visitors. Although we completed all of our project deliverables, there were still areas that needed improvement. At times, we overlooked important details during our presentation, such as explaining the ideas behind our logo and the reasons for certain design decisions. We also found that our transitions between speakers were not always smooth, which made our presentation feel less organized.
This experience showed me that effective presentation requires more than just having the final products ready. For the final exhibition, our group needs to rehearse more, clarify each member’s role, and improve our communication with the audience. Overall, the mock exhibition helped me recognize the value of preparation, coordination, and confidence when presenting our work.
Reflection on Growth
One part of the magazine that I mainly worked on was the written content. My responsibility was to create clear and informative text to help readers understand the topic better. During the process, I received feedback from my teammates and teacher. They suggested that some sections were not detailed enough and needed clearer explanations. After listening to their feedback, I revised my writing by adding more details and improving clarity to make the ideas easier to understand.
This project connected to my previous PBL experiences because I also worked in a group and contributed to written content in other projects. However, this time I focused more on improving clarity, structure, and depth in my writing. Compared to the past, I now spend more time reviewing my work and improving it based on feedback before final submission.
I have grown as both a learner and a group member. I learned how to express ideas more clearly in writing and how to improve my work through feedback from others. In the future, I still need to improve my ability to organize ideas more efficiently and write more concisely under time pressure. To improve, I plan to practice summarizing information and reviewing my writing more critically before submitting.
Social Justice Investigation
Our group investigated the social justice issue of misunderstanding and stereotypes. Before starting this project, I thought misunderstandings were usually small problems between individuals. However, through our research, I learned that misunderstandings can affect entire communities and lead to unfair treatment of certain groups.
What surprised me most was how easily people form opinions based on limited information or first impressions. Many people still do not realize how harmful stereotypes can be. This investigation helped me understand that social justice is not only about laws and policies but also about how people treat and understand one another. It also taught me that everyone has a responsibility to think carefully before judging others.
Graphic Design Growth
Throughout this semester, my understanding of how written content supports communication improved a lot. I became more confident in creating clear explanations and learned that effective communication should be both meaningful and easy to understand. One important lesson I learned was the importance of clarity and simplicity when presenting ideas to readers.
Written content helped our group communicate our social justice message because well-organized explanations can guide the audience to understand complex ideas step by step. The part of my work I am most proud of is how I explained our key concepts in the magazine. I focused on making sure the message was clear and directly connected to our topic. I am proud of this because it helped our audience understand our ideas more easily while keeping the content simple and focused.
