Unit 1 :Bedroom Redesign
Introduce this Unit:
In this unit, we resigned our own bedroom using scientific principles like scales, Feng Shui, and automation. We need to measure and draw it on a pices on paper.
Our class driving question is : How can we use scientific principles to design sustainable environments?
In this semester, we focused on SDG 9, especially 9b, which is about innovation and using technology to improve the world's environment.
In my project , I used automation and smart design to create an eco-friendly and efficient bedroom to live in.
What you learned/applied:
In this project, I learned how to use scale to draw accurate floor plans and measure space correctly. I also learned what Feng Shui is and how it can improve energy flows by arranging furniture in better places in my bedroom, we even watched videos about it, at first I didn’t really understand what it meant and what it matters so much. To understand Feng Shui, I even asked my mom how our house is planned with Feng Shui.
In addition, I learn automation by designing a system with movement sensors and heat sensors to control the lights, which makes the room more efficient.
Also I learned about teamwork at the beginning of PBL class.
We grouped as a team to measure the classroom and draw it out. It was pretty hard because we needed to work together to figure out the scale, meters and if we drew it wrong we got to know what causes it. But at last we worked out, by encouraging each other and telling our teammates to calm down.
These are the skills that I’ve learned in this project, these skills helped me design my bedroom that is more comfortable, organized, and eco-friendly.
Classrom Layout:
We worked in groups to measure and scale out our classroom. This helped me understand what is scaling and using ratios.
Bedroom Layout (Before):
I applied the same scale to draw my bedroom. Before redesigning my room, it had many problems. For example, when I'm sleeping I usually hit the corner of my desk and it will wake me up at midnight which is very tiring also the poor energy flow and etc.
Bedroom Layout (After):
After redesigning my bedroom. This helped my room become more comfortable and there is more space to put things.
This also helped understnd how to accurate floor plans and use ratios.
Automation Logic:
I design an automation system for my life, using a movement sensor and a heat sensor when movements are detected the lights turned on, and if there’s no movement, the lights turned off to save energy. This makes my room more eco-friendly and efficient.
Mood board:
My mood board shows the main furniture in my room, such as the bed desk chair and bookcase. I designed the space to feel more comfortable, organized, and relaxing, using feng shui.
(Anything else that you wish to add):
I the future, I would like to add more details about the information about the sensors like where is it from.
Final Bedroom Presentation PPT
What could I improve?
If I can do this project again, I would improve my research more to make sure that all my research are true and adding more automation ideas and information. Also maybe I will test real sensitive to make my design more realistic. I think when I present, I should be more fluent and remembering most of the pages and what should I say, although I had practiced and tried to remembered the speech but I think next time i can spend more on practicing not on the ppt. And also I'll make sure it's longer and that the presentation is detailed and has a lot of information.
Lastly, I would manage my time better so I can save more time and do my project more efficient.
Collaboration and Feedback:
During their project, I receive feedback about improving my PPT using keywords so that it is more convenient to read. For example, when Miss Black would tell me that I have too much keywords on it, I did my best to delete the unimportant parts and only putting some related keywords on the ppt.
How does it connect to other classes?:
This project connects a lot of math because we use scales and measurements to draw floor plants, which is last semesters unit in math.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, I learned how to combine design technology and sustainability to improve my bedroom.
In this project, learn a lot of things such as feng shui and by using them, I create a room that is more comfortable, organized, and eco-friendly. This project help Me Understand HO Hands Can You and Real Live To Design and make a world a better place.
Unit 2 : Family/ Friend Redesign
"Before" Classroom:
This is our homeroom before the redesign.
The client group wanted:
Automatic windows and can change the intensity of the modified lights
Our group wanted:
Robot room → Relax zone
Shelves → Lockers
Ms. Joy’s desk → Bigger and Larger space
Students desk → Clear division position
Chair → more comfortable
White board → Smart white board
Safety → exit lights, sprinkler
Questionnaire:
Here are the questions that we asked anothr group and our teachers about the classroom.
Our client group is Leo's group they think our class's light is too bright
Automatic windows so ut's more convient
Also we asked the teachers opion thinking about the things that we need to change :
The teachers say that when the projecter is down there is only two sides of the white board can use so it really inconvinient.
Also I asked Ms. Joy about the classroom space and she says that the classroom is good, but her space it a little bit too small bececause when she is going to leave her desk there is only one way to go.
"After" Classroom:
This is our homeroom after the redesign
After redesigning the classroom, we changed a lot of things.
Robot room → Relax zone
Shelves → Lockers
Ms. Joy’s desk → Bigger and Larger space
Students desk → Clear division position
Chair → more comfortable
White board → Smart white board
Safety → exit lights, sprinkler
Little Stone Floor → No cracks and single color
Logic Diagram:
Here is the logic diaram of our automation.
Automate Material: Window
Reason: lazy and usually forget to close ( Also when we open the AC it needs to automatic close or the classroom will never be cool.)
Goal: comfortable, safe and convenient
Peer Feedback :
Here is my peer feedback form.
After the presentation between 2 groups we gaved feedback to each other. Daniel gave me the feedback ⬆️. He gave me a lot of positive feedback like loud and clear voice talking in a nice pace of speaking and also said that I can notice how people react to my presentation while i'm talking and change the ways to present and explain. Which is a great feedback and is really helpful in the future too, whether I'm taking to a adult or a child. I can change the way I explain this project.
Final Presentation:
This is our group's final presentation.
This is the link ⬇️
Collaboration and Feedback:
After our presentation, both groups gave feedback to each other. Daniel gave me the feedback shown above. He said I spoke loudly and clearly, and my pace was good. He also mentioned that I was able to notice how people reacted during my presentation and adjust the way I explained things.
This feedback is very helpful because it shows that I can adapt my speaking depending on the audience. In the future, whether I am talking to adults or younger students in the exhibition, I can change the way I explain my ideas to make them easier to understand.
In our group, we also showed strong collaboration by dividing our work based on our strengths. For example, I am good at art, so I created the mood board and the floor plan, while Audrey focused on coding and the logic diagram. This helped us work more efficiently and produce a better final project.
Overall, this project helped me improve both my presentation and collaboration skills. I learned how to speak more clearly, adapt to my audience, and work effectively with my group by using our strengths. In the future, I will continue to use these skills to communicate better and create better projects.
