Luge

Project Overview

Introduction

In more recent times local gyms have started to become overcrowded, especially during the current power restrictions. Gym enthusiasts find it difficult to complete all their exercises during these busy times resulting in them not being able to improve physically as much as they desire. Luge is a gym application that assists users in ensuring they complete their weekly workout routines.

Design Challenge

The challenge was to solve a problem within certain communities, this included finding a way to implement a gamified mechanic into the application in order to keep the users engaged. The end goal is to provide a solution for a major problem these communities faced through a mobile application

Design Frame and Solution

Problem

The community has trouble completing their exercises when the gym is busy. The availability of some equipment dusing busy times decreases, resulting in members missing out on exercises and nit being able to complete their daily workout routine.

Design Question

How might we ensure gym enthusiasts with limited time and access to gym equipment complete their daily workout routine?

Solution

A application which takes the users information and gym restrictions and finds alternative ways to complete their exercises within the time limit.

Persona

About

Michael is a carpenter who designs custom woodwork for clients. He cares about his physical fitness as well as his mental well being. Michael believes in improving himself through working hard to achieve his personal goals.

User Problem

The only time Michael is able to go to gym is during busy times. In these busy times a lot of the equipment is already in use. This results in him not being able to complete all his exercises and loss of motivation.

Sketched Wireframes

The sketches indicated the initial idea and flow the application wil take on. The functionality of these screens represents the basic direction the application wil take.

Wire-Flows

Wire-flows indicate the process this application will take and how each section in the application links up to create a overall functional system to use

Sign up process

This is the first process the user will take in order to track their progress. The user will choose their experience level in order to gain benifets from certain exercises.

Create/Edit Work

Users are able to insert their current routine to a personal workout. Through this process they can track their progress in order to ensure they are on track with their exercises.

Staring a Exercise

In this process the user can start a exercise and follow along with the application. If the exercise is not available they can choose a simular exercise provided by the application.

Profile Navigation

All the progress and achievements the user makes will be displayed on their profile page. Here they can keep track of things like weekly progress, leaderboards, badges and their level progression.

Navigation Example

This show the process a user will take in order to check their previous workouts. This allows the user the retrive workouts they enjoyed and to understand what they did each week/month.

Gamification

Levels

The user is able to progress through levels as they complete exercises and workouts.

Unlockables

Badges will be categorize in a similar way to the levels ranking. For each level there are a set badges to be collected.

Point System

The points system enables the user to climb through Levels and Leaderboards.

Leaderboard

Leaderboards will display the best performing users sorted into categories. There will be a sort by function which will allow the user to see different leaderboards.

Conclusion

As a whole the project highlighted the importance of research and planning to ensure the application solves the problems raised within the gym community.

Luge solves problems within the community through multiple features and functions to ensure the user meets their goals. Through applied gamification the application ensures the users are more involved in using the application.
