Introduction

Guppy is a digital assitant application that assists in setting up and maintaining your fish tank

Design Challenge

This project involved designing a tablet application aimed at helping users with the setup and maintenance of a home fish tank by providing guidance through a digital assistant called Guppy. 

Design Frame and Solution

Problem

As part of the task, an application was required that allows the user to set up and maintain an aquarium by offering a multimodel interaction with voice-mediated and guided features.

Design Question

How might we assist the user in setting up and maintaining their fish tank through a voice-mediated feature? 

Solution

Guppy, the virtual assistant will assist the users by informing them of the required equipment as well as letting the user know when Guppy’s tankmates require some attention. 

Design Process

Persona

About

Max has a keen interest in keeping fish as a new hobby. He does not know where to start but he has read that you can choose between freshwater and saltwater fish. Undecided, he's in a bit of a dilemma. 

User Problem

Max has explored the different fish tanks but through more exploration, he is overwhelmed. He has a lot of questions but would prefer not to travel all the way to the fish shop to ask them. Most of the questions he finds online are not direct and this frustrates him.

Interaction Flow

Concept Drawings & Sketches 

In the initial planning phase, the assignment involved developing storyboards that highlighted the key problem of the users. Afterward, the focus was on merging ideas for the app's initial narrative sketches. 

Style Guide & UI Kit

The style guide and UI kit expresses the app a whole with the choices we made. The app essence is showcased in the font and color choice. 

Final Solution & Visual Designs

The final designs showcase the app Guppy in its entirety. Starting of on the signup screen followed by splash screens to guide the user throught their journey. The user is able to press Guppy or just say “Hey Gubppy” to start a chat with the virtual assistant. 

Conclusion

This project showcased the importance on how to take a problem from a persona and create a clear solution through implementing a digital assistant.

This project helped clarify the different aspects to keep in account in regards to design frame and visual design. To further refine the project more functions and pages could be added to go more deeply into solving the users problem
