Hello London Learners!
Suzanne, Ruben, Lea and Benet are really looking forward to accompanying you on this trip to London!
PRE-TRIP PREPARATION ACTIVITIES:
How do I prepare for the trip?
1) You will need to put yourselves into groups of 4. Give your group a name (something related to London) and write your names on this spreadsheet
2) Join this classroom - London 2023. You will submit your work there.
3) Complete the FOUR activities below in your groups by January 9th . You can divide the tasks between you, but you must all be familiar with the content. It is designed to prepare you for the trip as they are related to London history, culture and entertainment. ENJOY!
Read the article about a Spanish visitor’s experience in London and answer the following questions about “Traditional” and “Cosmopolitan” London. Submit your answers on a GOOGLE DOC in the classroom.
The London Dungeon is a dramatic journey through London’s dark past with laughs, scares, theatre, shocks, rides, special effects, characters, jokes, mazes and storytelling…..
During your visit you will encounter several sinister characters from London’s nasty history. To help you recognize them and enjoy your experience, research the characters online and complete the table on the GOOGLE DOC above. When you have finished, submit the work to the CLASSROOM.
During your visit to London you will notice the influences of William Shakespeare. Elizabethan history, the Globe, the popularity of the theatre.....
On our visit to the Globe you will be asked to take part in some dramatic scenes from Shakespeare's Othello (which you studied in ESO 3), So, it would be a good idea if you remind yourself of the story by reading it again here.
We will also be going to the theatre to see the musical “& Juliet” - a modern re-imagining of the story. To familiarise yourself with the original story beforehand. take time to watch the movie (the Baz Lurman version is the best): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romeo_%2B_Juliet).
You can also listen to the complete tracklist of the musical beforehand in this link

During your visit to London, each group will be in charge of taking the other students on a walking tour they have designed.
To help you design your tour, research information about each point of interest and complete the attached GOOGLE DOC before submitting it to the CLASSROOM.
- Make sure the itinerary of your tour makes sense!
- Don't copy paste information from the internet. Rewrite the information gathered in your own words to make it easy to understand and entertaining for your classmates!
- Look for a shot from a movie, series or even an event (historical / newsworthy) that was filmed along your route to prepare the "A snapshot of History" activity.
