PERSONAL OLYMPICS HISTORY: Has never played in the Olympics because Spain has never qualified.

SIGNATURE MOVE: N/A, but strengths are finding space, having excellent awareness on the pitch, and an ability to control the pace of the game and the ball to confuse defenders and move her team down the field.

BACKGROUND ON SPAIN'S TEAM: Spain's national team has never qualified for the Olympics, this will be there first year attending the tournament. The team faced tough competition to earn a spot in the Olympics, but ultimately picked up a ticket from the UEFA Women's Nation League by defeating host nation, the Netherlands.

Why we picked her:

Aitana Bonmatí Conca is a player to watch out for. She has an incredible track record and has proved to be a pivotal piece of every team she's on - and she's not done. Her father has said that Aitana will always push herself to achieve more, and we've seen that. Aitana was just crowned with the Best FIFA Women's Player award, one of the most esteemed recognitions in her field. She has determination and motivation on and off the field, which is beautiful to watch. Aitana is the total package on the field. She scores, assists, and helps carry up the ball with incredible passing and dribbling skills (FIFA). Her ability to see the field and understand where there is space to push ahead is unmatched. In a highlights video of Aitana, posted by the UEFA, we see up-close and slow-mo her ability to speed up and slow down play through beautiful footwork and dribbling. However, she's not without balance. Aitana is a big promoter of taking care of your physical and mental well-being, which has been vital to her success (Rac1). Another key? Her parents, Rosa Bonmatí Guidonet and Vicent Conca i Ferrús have supported her journey since she switched from basketball to soccer at age 7 (Wikipedia). They raised her to be a strong, intelligent woman who could achieve her dreams. Aitana was born in 1998, but until 2000, Spain's law was that the father's last name always came before the mother's in children's names. Her parents didn't believe in this and filed a case against the government. They were leaders in this change for equality. For the first two years of Aitana's life, her mother filed as a single mother, so Aitana's surname was Bonmatí Guidonet. Eventually, in 2000, the government changed its sexist policy, and Aitana was able to take both parents' surnames. She comes from a family of fighters, and we can see that clearly in her dedication to the pitch.
