PERSONAL OLYMPICS HISTORY: This will be Caicedo's first ever Olympic Tournament

BACKGROUND ON COLOMBIA'S TEAM: Colombia's National Team is a powerhouse of South American soccer, ranked 28th by FIFA. Known by two nicknames, "Las Chicas Superpoderosas", meaning The Powerpuff Girls, and "Las Cafeteras", meaning The Coffee Growers. The team was the third South American country to qualify for both the World Cup and the Olympics (after Brazil and Argentina), and was the first Spanish Speaking country to win a World Cup game. This will be the team's third Olympic appearance after qualifying in 2022 when they made it to the Copa America Femenina Finals.

Why we picked Caicedo

Linda Caicedo is one of the best players on the international stage, and she's only 19 years old. With only 32 Caps with the Colombian Senior Squad, Caicedo's story is one of excellence and resilience. Her honors speak for themselves, having won a myriad of accolades within the last two years alone including Golden Girl (2023), which is awarded to the best U-21 player at a European Club voted for by fifty sports-journalists. In the 2023 World Cup, Caciedo was awarded the FIFA Women's World Cup Goal of the Tournament. Take a look below at the goal she scored against Germany...it will stun you and you'll want to watch it about 10 times over. After scoring the goal, she showed up a heart with her hands, dedicating the goal to her girlfriend in the stands. As a player, her skill is undisputed. But what's fascinating about Caicedo is how much she has overcome and accomplished in her 19 years. Back in 2020, just after her 15th birthday, she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and had to undergo intense surgery and chemo-therapy starting in March. By September, she was deemed to be cancer-free and returned to the pitch just days after finishing her last rounds of treatments. As a young queer female footballer, Caicedo is becoming a role model for young women all over the world. From being in remission to being awarded Goal of the Tournament in 2023, I'd call that a comeback story. We are ecstatic to watch Caicedo's flare on the pitch this summer in France, and even more excited to see the impact she has off the pitch in years to come...

Some Highlights...

Caicedo is an ambassador for the non-profit called Fundacion Mi Sangre, which addressed youth mental health in Colombia and works to reduce violence in the country.
