First Grade Sight Words 1-100
🌅 Beginning of Year: Levels D & E
Text Structure: Books have 2–3 lines of text per page with simple, repetitive sentence structures.
Key Skills: Tracking words left-to-right across multiple lines, recognizing basic sight words (like the, and, see), and using large picture cues to help decode unfamiliar words.
🍁 Middle of Year: Levels F & G
Text Structure: Sentences become longer and begin to "wrap around" to a second line. Font sizes get slightly smaller.
Key Skills: Decoding basic consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words, recognizing word endings (like -ed and -ing), and relying less on illustrations to guess words.
🎓 End of Year: Levels H & I
Text Structure: Multiple paragraphs per page, more text, and significantly smaller pictures. Books may include simple dialogue and punctuation like quotation marks.
Key Skills: Reading with expression (fluency), understanding complex multi-syllable words, and accurately answering comprehension questions about the plot or characters.
