1. National Seminar on Insects and Ecosystem:
A National Seminar on "Insects and Ecosystem" was held on January 6, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the Velunachiar Hall. The seminar featured insightful lectures by distinguished speakers. Prof. S. Janarthanan from the Department of Zoology, University of Madras, delivered an engaging talk on "Man and Insects," exploring the intricate relationship between humans and insects. Dr. Devi Thangam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology and Genetics at Jyothi Nivas College, Bangalore, presented an informative lecture on "Insects and Their Role in Ecosystems," highlighting the essential contributions of insects to ecological balance and biodiversity. The event provided a valuable platform for exchanging knowledge and fostering deeper understanding of the vital role insects play in maintaining ecosystem health.
The inauguration of the Zoology Association took place on January 6, 2025, at 12 PM in Velunachiar Hall. Dr. Vanitha Williams, Associate Professor in the Department of Zoology at Women's Christian College, Chennai, was the chief guest and delivered an enlightening special lecture on "Avian Biodiversity in Vedanthangal." Her talk focused on the identification of various bird species, providing valuable insights that greatly enriched the participants' understanding of the fascinating world of birds. The event was a tremendous success, garnering an overwhelming response from the students.
3. PTA Meeting
The PTA meeting was held on January 25, 2025, in Room No. 58 at 9:00 AM. The PTA plays a pivotal role in overseeing the activities of the college, aiming to enhance facilities and improve the institution's overall functioning. Tasked with planning, executing, and making key decisions, the association is dedicated to fostering the development of both students and the college. Additionally, the PTA actively supports academic and co-curricular programs, ensuring a holistic growth environment for the students.
4. Alumini Meet:
The Old Student Association meeting was held on January 25, 2025, at 12:00 PM in Room No. 58. During the meeting, the alumnae expressed their gratitude towards the institution and emphasized the importance of introducing research courses to further enhance academic opportunities.
5. Extension Activities and Community Service:
The Department of Zoology organized an exhibition on January 31, 2025, in the Virtual Hall. The event featured a wide array of exhibits, including both working and non-working models, along with informative charts that highlighted different aspects of zoological sciences. Notable exhibits included models and charts on topics like apiculture, sericulture, integrated fish farming, and dairy and poultry farming. The exhibition attracted students from various departments, who actively engaged with the displays, enhancing the overall learning experience.
6. Pongal Celebration:
The Department of Zoology celebrated Pongal on the 10th of January for the academic year 2024–2025 with great enthusiasm and traditional flair. Students arrived dressed in elegant sarees, adding vibrancy to the occasion. The celebration commenced around 9:30 a.m., with the entrance of the staff room beautifully decorated with intricate Rangoli patterns. Under the guidance and supervision of faculty members, students gathered with their respective departments to take part in the festivities. The event fostered a sense of cultural pride, unity, and celebration among the college community.
7. Field Trip:
A total of 66 students from I B.Sc. Advanced Zoology & Biotechnology and I M.Sc. Zoology, accompanied by five faculty members and one lab attendant, undertook an educational field visit to the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur, Chennai, on 10.02.2025 as part of their academic curriculum.
