DEPARTMENT ASSOCIATION MEETING

The inauguration of the Zoology Association was held on 08.02.2023 at 12 pm in the virtual hall. The Chief guest of the function Dr. Bhavani Govindarajulu, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, Queen Mary’s College, Chennai delivered a special lecture on “BUTTERFLY DIVERSITY”. The talk highlighted about identification of varied species of butterflies and the session was extremely beneficial to the student participants enhancing their existing knowledge on the astonishing world of butterflies. The programme was overall a grand success with an over whelming response.

II. Training Programme on Vocationalisation of Higher Education of RUSA

II Year PG Students along with 2 staff members of Zoology department attended Training program conducted by Anna Administrative Staff College, Chennai on 10.8.2022 to 12.8.2022.

III. EXTENSION AND COMMUNITY SERVICE -ZOO EXPO 2023

An exhibition was organized by the Department students on 23.02.2023. Exhibits in the form of working and non-working models as well as charts were displayed on varied aspects of zoological sciences. The highlights of the exhibition were models/charts such as Biogas experiment, Heart Structure, Stages of Infant, Protein Synthesis, Recombinant DNA Technology, Human Evolution. Human Eye, Structure of Glucose, Ecosystems etc. Our college students from various other departments participated as visitors. Best three exhibits were awarded with prizes.

PONGAL CELEBRATION was organised in the Department on 13.01.2023. Students enthusiastically celebrated the festival in traditional attires. Colourful rangolis were drawn, sweet Pongal prepared in mud pot and distributed to everyone. The festival celebrations aided in the learning of our traditional practices as well as spreading happiness and positivity to all.

lV. Field Visit

The 61 students of I B.Sc. Advanced Zoology and Biotechnology went for a field visit to Government Museum at Egmore, Chennai on 09.02.2023 as part of the curriculum. The students explored various galleries related to Zoology namely Invertebrate gallery, Vertebrate gallery, Skeleton gallery which had on display extraordinary collection of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fishes, corals, poriferans, molluscans, corals, arthropods, echinoderms, skeleton of Indian elephant, dentition of animals etc. The spectacular and outstanding exhibits in the museum definitely enhanced the students existing knowledge on zoological sciences. The trip was very useful being a great learning experience to all. The students also individually prepared a report on the field visit.
