What is it and how can it be used in Digital Technologies Learning
Critical thinking is the ability to analyse, interpret, evaluate, make decisions and solve problems effectively and efficiently (Common Sense Education, 2024). In Health and Physical Education (HPE), fostering this skill enhances student learning and engagement by encouraging practical application of knowledge. Technological platforms such as Quizlet and Kahoot! can be integrated to develop quick decision-making and problem-solving skills during high-pressure situations. This not only enhances students' analytical skills but also prepares them for real-life situations where effective decision-making is crucial in sports and physical activities.
Quizlet:
Quizlet is an innovative online learning tool that enables users to create personalised study materials. Its game-based learning approach fosters engagement and motivation by incorporate fun and competitive elements, which enhance content retention and critical thinking skills (Kharbach, 2022). Quizlet can have many benefits within a HPE learning area as it allows both educators and students to create flashcard sets, tests, and content pairing activities (Quizlet, 2020). Educators can develop test preparation resources and conduct formative assessments, while students can priorities specific topics they find challenging (Kharbach, 2022). This versatility supports all learning styles, enabling students to tailor their study strategies according to their individual needs. By integrating Quizlet into HPE, educators can create a more interactive learning environment, which can increase student engagement and improve academic performance.
Kahoot!:
Kahoot! is a game-based online learning platform that enables users to create, share, and engage in interactive quizzes and learning activities (Kahoot!, 2017). Its user-friendly design allows educators to deliver engaging content that can be tailored to students' specific learning needs (Wang & Tahir, 2020). Kahoot! can be used to conduct formative assessment tasks and has been proven to improve students' performance outcomes (Wang & Tahir, 2020). Kahoot's versatility allows for the creation of HPE related content, including topics like nutrition, exercise physiology, and fitness components. Kahoot! is a highly beneficial app for developing critical thinking skills; its fun and competitive learning environment motivates students to actively participate, enhancing their learning experience and improving classroom dynamics (Wang & Tahir, 2020).
