What is it and how can it be used in Digital Technologies Learning
Creativity involves brainstorming, refining ideas, open-mindedness, and producing versatile ideas and solutions (Common Sense Education, 2024). It is a vital skill that enhances student learning and engagement in Health and Physical Education (HPE), as it aligns with many aims of the Western Australian Curriculum. The incorporation of technology allows students to develop multimedia projects that address prominent health issues in today's society. Engaging in creative tasks enables students to gain a deeper understanding of health topics, making the learning experience more relevant and dynamic.
Canva:
Canva is a digital design platform that simplifies the creative design process for its users (Edwards, 2021). Canva offers a range of creative features, including template designs, text tools, icons, images, videos, and data charts (Edwards, 2021). The platform can be used in both collaborative and individual learning environments to develop students' content knowledge and enhance their digital literacy skills. Educators can utilise Canva to elevate their teaching resources, making the content more engaging and visually appealing for students (Bridget de Maine, 2021). Additionally, Canva is an effective tool for conducting formative assessment tasks due to it being user-friendly, and having a customisable design (Bridget de Maine, 2021). Students can create infographics, presentations, and posters, allowing them to express their creativity and demonstrate an understanding of relevant HPE topics such as nutrition, fitness circuits, and the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Utilising Canva as an education tool offers numerous benefits for students, as it enhances creativity, supports visual learners, and increases motivation for active participation (Bridget de Maine, 2021).
Google Slides:
Google Slides is an online presentation platform that is part of the Google Drive suite (Slidesgo, n.d.). It enables users to create, edit, and present engaging and visually pleasing slideshows using tools and features such as design templates, themes, fonts, multimedia integration and interactive elements (Google, n.d.). Educators can utilise Google Slides to develop interactive and visually stimulating learning materials, enhancing student engagement and interest (Staake, 2020). Content can be designed to accommodate diverse learning styles, as visual, audio, and interactive components can be integrated into presentations (Staake, 2020). Google Slides fosters creativity by enabling students to express their ideas in innovative ways and experiment with the array of tools available. Students can present their knowledge and understandings of HPE subjects such as nutrition, human anatomy and fitness components, facilitating a more enjoyable and engaging learning experience.
