What is it and how can it be used in Digital Technologies Learning
Collaboration is the ability to accomplish a shared goal by working with others, being accommodating, and dividing group responsibility (Common Sense Education, 2024). In a Health and Physical Education (HPE) environment, collaborative work supports the development of interpersonal skills, effective communication, decision-making and goal setting abilities (The Australian Council for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, 2014). Sharing knowledge and supporting group members promotes teamwork, responsibility, and active participation, deepening students' understanding of health and fitness concepts (The Australian Council for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, 2014).
Microsoft PowerPoint:
Microsoft PowerPoint is a multifunctional presentation platform that is a part of the Microsoft Office 365 suite (TheKnowledgeAcademy, 2023). It enables users to create, edit, and present professional slideshows by using features such as design themes, animations, and multimedia integration, making it a valuable teaching resource for educators (Shrotkatewa, 2021). Students can utilise PowerPoint to create interactive, visually pleasing, and professional presentations for class assignments and projects (TheKnowledgeAcademy, 2023). In a HPE context, PowerPoint can be utilised to present topics such as body image, mental health and well-being, and sport science research. Due to the platform's collaborative element, students can share classwork with their peers and simultaneously add content, edit the layout, and communicate using comments (TheKnowledgeAcademy, 2023). PowerPoints collaborative features foster active participation, enhance communication skills and problem-solving abilities, encourage peer teaching and learning, and allow for diverse perspectives on class topics (TheKnowledgeAcademy, 2023).
Padlet:
Padlet is a digital education platform that facilitates collaborative activities in a fun and engaging manner (Edwards, 2020). Padlet is described as a 'virtual wall', that allows users to create brainstorming boards, discussion boards, timelines, interactive maps and research projects through posting text, images, links, documents, videos and audio recordings (Clarke, 2019). The platform enables users to simultaneously share their personal opinions in real-time with others (Edwards, 2020). In a HPE context, educators can utilise Padlet to manage classroom materials and engage students in topics such as nutrition, drug and alcohol awareness, or techniques for sprots like soccer (Beckwith, 2024). By incorporating Padlet into learning activities, students can brainstorm and share ideas, fostering a collaborative learning environment. The platform is easy for students to navigate and reduces anxiety regarding sharing answers in class anonymously (Clarke, 2019). Padlet's collaborative nature enables students to learn from diverse perspectives, therefore enriching their understanding of HPE topics (Clarke, 2019).
