Víkingr Blōþą

revision

  • I cropped it to follow the rule of thirds better

  • I tinted it red to add to the mood

original image

This was taken behind the scenes of Aesop, a film set I was working on. It is one of the actors, Noah Kershisnik, in full costume. He was standing under one of the set lights getting help with putting on parts of his costume, this was taken candidly. I entitled the piece "Viking Blood" in Norse, this has nothing to do with the film. I thought that the way he was looking down he seemed almost ashamed, thinking about atrocious acts that he has had to do in war.

Photoshop

  • B&W adjustment layer

  • Spot healing brush lightly used

  • Smart sharpen

  • shape tool

  • Mask on the shape tool

Design

  • I chose to put him in black and white because he is hardened - with little color in his life.

  • This wasn't done on purpose- but the way the light is hitting his face it creates a shadow around his eye that reminds me of a skull - this works well with the piece.

  • The red against the b&w, he is forced to face his acts.

  • the bottom point of the triangle follows his eye line. I feel like this is really showing that he is thinking about what he might have done.
