We encourage every club to plan & execute an awareness event/fundraiser at some point during or at the end of the school year.
Feel free to host multiple events; some may be large & take months to plan and some are quick & relatively easy.
Also: don't be afraid to take part in outside events involving the cause
Example: In 2018 and 2019, Good Shepherd Church, along with Olympic High School and Nation Ford High School Y4H clubs hosted “Allstars For Abolition”, a basketball fundraiser & awareness event for human trafficking. Although the event was funded and organized through the church, our Y4H clubs volunteered, advertised, and helped in any other way they could.
Below are ideas of what have been done in the past and/or events that are annual for Y4H. We encourage & welcome new ideas! :)
A21 Walk for Freedom
Many clubs have participated in the annual & global A21 Walk for Freedom that takes place in October.
On the website you can find a map that tells you when this walk is taking place near you. Advertise and gather up some of your club, community, or family members and participate together!
End It Movement
Participate in the annual & global End It Movement day (which is usually in February), by drawing a red X on your hand, signfiying the fight to end modern-day slavery.
You can promote this event in meetings and on social media to members, family, and the community!
Joy of Freedom Walk
www.joy.org/joy-of-freedom-walks
For the past few years, Y4H has partnered with Joy International, another anti-human trafficking organization to take part in their annual walk fundraiser.
"Walk a mile in solidarity with trafficked children to raise funds for JOY International, a global non-profit organization based in Conifer, Colorado."
This is a fun family event and it takes place every year at a park in Charlotte, NC. If we participate that year, we send the event information to our clubs!
Y4H/FOH gets to keep 80% of proceeds we raise for the event!
Each club can join us throughout the summer once a month for virtual walks to promote the walk in September.
We encourage each club to advertise the walk with fliers and social media not only for their club members, but in their schools and communities.
For clubs not local to the Charlotte area: We encourage you to participate virtually!
If your school has a track or if there's a park nearby, get your club together and walk barefoot in support. You are also still encouraged to raise funds if you can. The Y4H team can help you with planning something.
Talk with your advisor to see when club rush is taking place. This is a great way to advertise your club and inform your school on meetings, invite people to receive club information, etc.
There are also local festivals you may be able to table at to raise further awareness about your club and the anti-human trafficking cause.
REMEMBER: You have your coach supporting you so don't hesitate to ask them for help in preparing for club rush or festivals!
A great way to create more funding for your chapter or donate to Y4H/FOH, is to create T-shirts or other merch related to the cause, to sell in your schools & communities.
This is a way to be creative and think of catchy slogans and incorporate trends that can bring awareness to this topic.
In 2020, Y4A chapters created "Not For Sale" T-shirts and sold them among chapter members, through social media, and at the Pancakes For Freedom event, & then donated this profit to Y4A.
Panels are a great awareness event!! We have contacts for experts on human trafficking ranging from survivors, trauma therapists to federal agents. Talk with your advisor and coach to help coordinate the event. A panel can also be an add-on to other events like a movie showing or pancake breakfast!
In 2024, the Marvin Ridge High School Y4H Club hosted an Expert Panel Event and was featured on WCNC Charlotte!! :)
Movie Showings can be an awareness event & fundraiser.
Showings have taken place many times at schools and churches.
In school showings, some were during after school hours (and open to the community!) & some were a during school hours, with sold tickets and permission slips for teachers to sign.
Tickets have been sold from $2-$7 and after the movie, a panel of human trafficking experts have spoken & answered audience questions regarding the movie or human trafficking in general.
Students from the club hosting the event tend to go on stage and present an array of human trafficking facts to add additional awareness.
Also in some showings, posters are signed, info cards are provided, & there are opportunities for Fields of Hope products to be purchased.
Y4H can also have a table outside the showing for students & faculty, or anyone able to attend, to get more info on our organization (through brochures, speaking with the Y4H team, etc.)
Every hosting location has different rules for approval so be sure to find out all of this information ahead of time.
*Y4H has copyright of the movie Priceless so besides getting permission & planning anything else you want to do with the showing, this is a very simple way to being awareness & raise funds! But Sound of Freedom is another option that could be potentially shown.
Pancakes For Freedom (P4F) is a pancake breakfast fundraiser & awareness event that took place in January of 2019, 2020, & 2021 (2021 being virtual).
Over $4,000 was collectively raised and donated through the fundraisers, and approximately 200 people attended each year.
Not only is breakfast served, but there was an information panel, activities, and opportunities to purchase items.
Multiple clubs can come together to plan this event, if you do not want to host it alone.

Candy grahams aren’t an actual event in itself, but provide a way to indirectly spread awareness through a fun & inclusive way.
For two years in a row, Olympic High School Y4H prepared 2700 candy grahams for all students and staff from materials purchased through Amazon or Walmart: A lollipop in a little baggie, with a sticker label attached with a human trafficking fact & the Y4H logo.
One year they were even passed out on Valentine's Day, with the purpose of allowing every individual to receive this gift and feel included. Halloween is also a good opportunity to do candy grahams!
You can choose to pass them out and not make profit (like the Valentines gesture) or sell them as a fundraiser!
$$$: The amount of money you spend will depend on how many you make and your exact materials but 2700 of the candy grahams that the Olympic club cost about $150-$200.
This is a great way to uniquely provide awareness and there are countless ways to switch it up for different audiences and occasions!
Materials used if you want to make these specific candy grahams:
small plastic gift bags
labels printed with human trafficking facts and/or quotes
dum dum lollipops (this specific candy seemed to be a cheaper and easier option)
Journey of Hope is an entrepreneurship and empowerment program for girls and young women who have been rescued from sex trafficking and sexual exploitation.
Survivors in this program are provided paid, educational fellowships to participate in our year-long curriculum focused on professional development and leadership. The survivors and Fields of Hope support team make a variety of handmade products (candles, jewelry, lotions, bookmarks, etc.) and sell them online and locally.
fieldsofhopeusa.org/shop
Fields of Hope products have been used at many events/fundraisers to sell at booths for sale or for an information table.
You can also have FOH employees come to your Y4H meetings to talk more about what they do in the anti-human trafficking cause.
You are also encouraged to advertise Fields of Hope products to your club, community, family & friends as another way to support this cause. You are supporting survivors of sex trafficking!
If you're interested in having Fields of Hope products at an event you attend or want to plan, reach out to your coach and they can help make it happen!
Homes of Hope has served more than 650 young survivors of sexual exploitation and trafficking since 2009. This house/program provides a holistic, trauma-informed model of care. Survivors receive long-term housing, 24-hour care, onsite private school, therapy, mentors, life skills, health care, recreation, and individualized treatment plans.
Grab a team & put together a Hope House drive!
Collect welcome gift basket items, which typically include:
Bibles, journals, toiletries (tooth brush, deodorant, tooth paste, soap, wash towels, etc.), robe, indoor shoes, feminine products, Pajamas, headphones, mini water jug/waterbottles, & snacks)
Gift cards are also always appreciated (examples: walmart, target, grocery stores, etc.)
This is a simple fundraiser/event to do with your club or with your entire school/community! You can choose who to get involved & ways to advertise. Talk with your Y4H coach if you're interested!
