Hike-a-Thon 2024
There’s an exciting opportunity afoot! It’s called the Young Explorers Hike-a-Thon.
I hope you will enjoy participating and that the event will grow larger and more successful every year. For this year, we’re starting small. Everything you need is linked below, including a sample letter you can use to get pledges and electronic and analog pledge forms.
Here’s what to do:
Let us know you’re participating. We will add your name to the electronic pledge form. You can also collect pledges the old-fashioned way.
Choose a hike with a known distance. It should challenging based on distance or elevation or both. If it’s easy or short, you may choose to do the hike several times in one day.
Share your plan with friends and family in advance, and ask them to make a per-mile pledge. So, if someone pledges $1 per mile, and you completed 6.2 miles, they would donate $6.20.
Choose a day and hike! Prepare well, including the ten essentials. You can postpone the hike for inclement weather, but all the miles must be logged on the same day!
Report your miles to your supporters and collect your pledges!
Use funds to support your 4-H activities. You can use funds for 4-H projects, to attend 4-H camp, or for 4-H-related travel expenses.
The Jowett Family has chosen to hike the Cheshire Harbor Trail to the top of Mount Greylock, the highest peak in Massachusetts, on Saturday, June 8, 2024. It is 6.2 miles with an elevation gain of 1,916 feet. An average hiker would complete it in 4 hours. All are welcome to join us!
One day, an expanded version of this event, including sponsors and participants outside our club, could support amazing trips and other 4-H activities.
