Young Explorers meet most often at 10 am on Saturday mornings at least once per month. Additional pop-up meetings are available as the opportunity arises. We meet in members' homes, at local libraries, and at trail heads. Sometimes, we are invited to visit local farms, businesses, or non-profit organizations.
Join us on Saturday, November 8, to make no-bake cheesecake at the Jowetts.
Create an original costume of things you already have at home, (Raid your closets and your recycle bins!) and wear it to the party. We will present our costumes to each other, make a spooky craft, and have a spooky snack. Join us at the Jowetts at 2:30 pm Sunday, October 19. We will also have our first business meeting (a short one!) and decide on some upcoming activities.

On August 23, we tried out our entrepreneurial skills selling hot dogs, snacks, baked goods, and Ayla's famous dirty sodas at the Bennington Farmer's Market. The proceeds benefited a friend of the club who was hurt in a workplace accident.
What a day! Each of the seven participants had the opportunity to find eight amazing items with a metal detector and learn about the types of historic treasures can be found here in Vermont. Thank you, Brad, Becca, and Bentley.
We had 10 intrepid 4-Hers make tie dye shirts on Saturday, July 5. Well done, all!

It was rainy, but we did it! We added compost and planted green beans, tomatoes, zucchini, and cucumbers. We even planted the flower boxes! Thanks to the Bennington Garden Club for supporting this work!

Thanks to Ethen, Shannon, and Sophia for hosting this fun event. We learned about archery and deer hunting. We learned about bows and tree stands (we all want a climber tree stand now!). We even tracked a blood trail.

Regional Day 2025
Six Young Explorers made single-signature soft-cover journals at 10 am Saturday, March 8 at the Solomon Wright Public Library in Pownal, VT. Nicely done!
We had wo sessions on February 15! Lots of needle felting accomplished! Great job, Amelia, Claira, and Sophia!
We had a special vacation-editon get-together to learn about making pizza from the experts at The Log by Ramuntos on Tuesday, February 18.
Pillows were made! Learning was accomplished! Fun was had! And the satisfaction of making something... You just can't beat that! Thanks to the amazing volunteers for giving their time and Walmart Bennington's sewing department for the donation of fabric and stuffing!
We joined The Bank of Bennington and the Bennington Free Library at the library at 2 pm on Saturday, January 25, to learn about spending, saving, and giving; to paint our own piggy banks; and to make our own wallets!
Young Explorers tried knitting, crochet, and needle felting. They made needle felted creatures and crocheted scrunchies! Well done, everyone!
We met up on December 21 to make an ornament, exchange cookies, and receive a present! The cookies were delicious!
On November 21, club members and members of the Sharp Shooters 4-H Club got together for acknowledgements of your participation. Those who completed a record book were acknowledged.
What's better than fresh bread out of the oven with butter on it? Nothing! On November 9, we made bread and butter from scratch, and boy, was it delicious! Watch the video here.
At 11 am on Saturday, September 28, we'll got together and celebrated all of the fun and learning we had this year. Thanks to Margaret Comar for hosting again this year.
Members and their adults helped make plans for the coming 4-H year, which begins October 1.

Celebrate Pownal Day offered amazing fun and great fundraising on July 27. Each of our members contributed handmade items to sell and walked away with a few bucks to support future projects! Well done!

Young Explorers sought pledges, did some hiking, and raised funds for their 4-H projects. Great job, everyone!
On Sunday, May 26, we visited Suzanne and her alpaca Sanderson in Readsboro. We also saw how Sanderson got sheared and learned how to spin and weave the fiber.
We met the bees! Local expert Jeanne Davis showed us her bee yard on May 18. We learned a lot about what bees do and need to make delicious honey. Thank you, Jeanne!
We celebrated spring with the Greater Bennington Community Services and the Kitchen Cupboard by planting their garden beds on Saturday, May 11. Great job, Claira, Sophia, and Timo!
Saturday, May 4 is an important day. It's Vermont's annual Green Up Day, and picking up trash is a long-running Young Explorers tradition! This year we cleaned up Quarry Hill Trail in Pownal.
We learned about real maps and made imaginary maps of our own at 2 pm Saturday, April 27, at the Bennington Free Library.

On April 6, we got together with folks at the Bennington Free Library to build creatures out of junk and learn new paper folds. It was a great time!
Regional Day
Three Young Explorers presented on Saturday, March 30, at Rutland Town School. They brought home five ribbons!
How to Make a Bean Bag On March 16, we made bean bags and worked together to create a "how to make a bean bag" poster to show at Regional Day.
We are very grateful to have had Green Mountain Club volunteers leading this program on March 9 and an Interact volunteer helping out too! Kids learned about animal tracks, the ten essentials, leave no trace, and more.
We were very grateful to have been invited to a free pizza-making experience at the Log by Ramuntos in Williamstown on February 20.
We invited kids from our community to experience 4-H through a series of six fun STEAM events, including Bracelet Crafts at 2 pm Saturday, February 24, at the Bennington Free Library.
We used the Bennington-Rutland 4-H Materials to build some robots on February 10!
