We need our robot to be able to scan the underground so needed a sensor. The archeologist told us about a georadar. We didn't have a big georadar because it is big, expensive and heavy. That's we experimented with some different radars.
First we experimented with two small people detection radars. We figured out that we can detect thing through a sheet of paper but as we expected we couldn't detect things under ground.
Then we soldered together an easy metal detector. It worked but we couldn't get an analog value from it to use in the Rasberry Pi
Lastly we tried a magnetometer. It is something like a digital compass. We could detect buried ferromagnetick coins like 2€ but it didn't detect coins such as 50c coins. For more reliable detection our little prototyp is looking for magnets. The final products could have more sensors at once such as the georadar.
