First, we needed to choose a surface under witch we could hide artifacts. Our first test was with sand. We tested different wheels and even tracks on that surface. Some wheels took the sand and made the gears almost impossible to turn. We prevented this by adding shields onto the wheels.
The robots behaviour started getting worse and worse during testing. We thought, that the wheels were the problem, but then we heard a strange sound from the motors. Sand got into the motors during the testing, causing worse movement. We realized, that we needed a surface made from material, that cant get into motors. So, our next move was switching from sand to gravel. But even gravel had small particles. Thats why we took the gravel and washed it two times, so our motors would be safe.Â
In the picture you can see our final prototype. As you can see, it uses tracks for better turning. We tested the tracks on sand first, but it was not working. On gravel, however, the tracks work just fine.
