Driving A Green Future with Power Electronics

Yongheng YANG

ZJU100 Professor, Ph.D.
IEEE Senior Member

College of Electrical Engineering
Zhejiang University, China

I received my B.Eng. degree from Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi'an, China in 2009. After that, I spent two years in Nanjing, China, and completed my Master's study (enrolled in a Master-Doctoral postgraduate program) at Southeast University. This stimulated my interest in power electronics and then drove me to continue my exploration, which was in Denmark. I worked with Prof. Frede Blaabjerg and obtained my Ph.D. degree from Aalborg University (AAU) in 2014. I was with the Department of Energy Technology, AAU as an Associate Professor until 2020, and also served as the Vice Program Leader of Photovoltaic Systems at AAU. Since January 2021, I have been working as a ZJU100 Professor at Zhejiang University, China. I have been focusing on

  • Power electronics (design, analysis, and control)

  • Renewable energy systems, particularly photovoltaic systems

  • Reliability in power electronics and systems (design for reliability)

In the above areas, I have authored and co-authored more than 250 journals and conference papers within the last several years. I have also published two books - Periodic Control of Power Electronic Converters and Advances in Grid-Connected Photovoltaic Power Conversion Systems. In 2018, I received the IET Premium Award (Best Paper) in Renewable Power Generation, and I was also the recipient of the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics' Outstanding Reviewers Award in 2018. I was the recipient of the 2021 IEEE Richard M. Bass Outstanding Young Power Electronics Engineer Award for contributions to the design and control of grid-friendly solar photovoltaic systems.

I am a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). I am also a Member of the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS), the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS), and the IEEE Power and Energy Society. Currently, I am an Associate Editor for several prestigious journals, including the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics. I am also a Deputy Editor (Solar Photovoltaic Systems, including MPPT) of the IET Renewable Power Generation. I was the Chair of the IEEE Denmark Section Executive Committee (2019-2020). Currently, I am the Secretary of the IEEE Technical Committee on Sustainable Energy Systems, a Council Member of the China Power Supply Society, and the Secretary of the IEEE PELS Education/Digital Media Committee.

I am now looking for prospective Ph.D. students, research assistants, and postdoc fellows, who have the same interest and visions to work with me. More importantly, those who are persistent in Driving a Green Future with Power Electronics are very welcome to contact me.
